Classic Irish Buses!

I have recently spent a few enjoyable hours reading up on old CIE buses.

    http://www.dublinbuses.com/

Plenty of pics and specs in these pages. I am now a bus anorak :)

It's very good to see that there are a few individuals who are interested in preserving the older stuff. The thing about these buses is that many of them are unique to Ireland. Chassis and running gear were pretty standard but bodies were made specifically for CIE by companies such as Bombardier/GAC, McArdle and CIE themselves.

Anyone here have any interest in this sort of thing?

While I enjoy travelling by coach on the continent (a/c etc) I don't look forward to any trips on CIE busses. Usually they take the longest scenic route possible and stop too many times.
I guess I have them to thank for my car fanaticism as my usual mode of transport when I was young was this particular type bus. Just look at that face - doesn't it just say 'come aboard - let me give you hell'

Can't say I've ever had much of an interest in buses, but I'm still glad to see so many being saved from the scrapman !

Lots of them on display at the museum in Howth (and their storage depot in the Glen of Imaal).

Also, several classic buses trucks, vans, (and ex-Air Corps planes!), on view at the railway depot in Dromod, Co. Leitrim.
