    anyone know where i can download any video files for my phone?
    legal stuff of course#
    or even better is it possible to compress regular avi files to my phone?

    All you need is here and it's free, I have used it to convert vcd's and the quality has been excellent, you can vary the quality depending on the size of your mmc card.

    You can use Nokia Multimedia converer 2.0 to convert AVI / WAV / MP3 / MPG / MOV / AMR / AWP / NIM / MP4

    to 3gp format

    now that i got all my snazzzy avis and mpgs on the card
    can i shrink a dvd movie on here too and how so?

    Yep just convert or rip from dvd to avi or vcd using winavi or such then use the nokia tool :D

    Depends on a different things about 40 to 60 mins I'd say but just guessing.

    Does anyone else have any probs with the sound quality ?!?

    Its very scratchy sounding or something but i cant increase the quality in the nokia encoder.

    no probs here just very loud, normally leave it at amr and 12.2

    yea its very loud but lowering it down only helps a bit but its still fairly bad. The video is perfect mind just sound is crackly. there is another sound format option which sets the audio at a higher rate but my 6230 cant play it for whatever reason. Anyone know anyway to increase the quality of the audio ?!? Is there another proggie other than the nokia encoder I can use to encode vids with ?!?

    just used a program called xilisoft 3gp encoder much better results than the nokia encoder and you can tweak the encoding rates.
