nokia 6230 bluetooth

I recently bought a bluetooth headset from ebay. they shipped it from asia and my phone won't detect it. is there anything i can do or did they send me defective headset?

Have you tried detecting it on another phone or tried to detect another bluetooth device (such as another bluetooth phone) from your 6230?

well like a dumbass i missed a step. i had to have the bluetooth headset flashing from red to blue while i search for it with my phone. but my peeps down the cingular store hooked me up. they also told me that upgrading firmware voids your warranty. is that true?
