Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

NTL Cable and Windows 2000 Server?

    Hi,

A friend of mine is having problems with her NTL Cable connection in the last couple of weeks. NTL support suggested initally that something had gone screwy in the network/tcpip set up of the computer. She brought it into work to have it checked by the in-house techies and they confirmed everything looked ok - it connected ok to the internal network.

The computer in question is a laptop running Windows 2000 Server. Eventually NTL said they don't support Windows 2000 Server, end of story.

So - is anyone running Windows 2000 Server against an NTL connection? Anything funny happen to anyone over the last couple of weeks? Any suggestions in general for w2k and cable modems?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but searching isn't helped by the forum search rejecting NTL as a keyword cos its too small

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    C

Is she connecting to the modem using USB or ethernet. If she is using she could try ethernet which tends to be more stable then USB.

What problems specifically has she seen and where is she located.

There have been reports of downtime and other conenction problems in one particular area over the last few weeks, D15 I think.

Nope. I have a Windows 2003 Server on NTL, but it's connected to a network via router, and the router is connected to the modem.

Any error messages she's getting? In theory, it shouldn't be much different to configuring a Windows 2000 Pro client. Have you tried deleting the Modem from her Device Manager and reinstalling it?

Is windows 2000 acting as a DHCP server / have static IP address instead of a DCHP client ??

check the TCP/IP settings in the network card to find out. - The NTL box will be handing out the IP addresses - unless there is a need to do otherwise (maschosim etc.) leave the NTL box doing the DHCP.
