Yeah? In that case I'm sure you could have done it in a less condescending manner.

I can't understand how people get all worked up about shooting animals. I'm sure 99% of these people would have no probelm squating a fly. But if the animal happens to be furry or cute then all of a sudden it's wrong. Guess what, every little cute bunny rabbit or birdie you see in the wild is going to come to a gruesome bloody end. Fact! Being shot is probably one of the most humane deaths that a wild animal can have.

If the sight of dead animals sickens you then for Gods sake stay out of the hunting forum!

I don't so much have a problem with people killing animals (which is more or less necessary to our current society, sadly...) as with people TAKING PLEASURE out of killing animals. People who take pleasure out of killing animals, and post pictures of same like a bizarre form of pornography, are weird. Full stop. Still, as long as the weird perverts restrict them to their own forum...

(Comparing killing a fly to a rabbit isn't particularly legitimate; flies are really phenominally stupid (it's been possible to fairly accurately predict their actions on computer for decades) while rabbits are apparently concious.)

So it's ok to kill an animal as long as it is thick?

I am fairly sure that an algorythm could be written to "predict" the movement and behaviour of rabbits.

I remember some guy tracking, and therfore predicting, the behaviour and movement of pigeons recently (and no not that scence out of a "beautiful mind") . So by your logic it's ok to kill any animal as long as we know that it's thick??

Nah, I was just making the comment that comparing killing a conscious being and a non-conscious one is invalid. I stand by this.

I wasn't being condescending, you asshole. Asking someone to say the word "ridiculous" out loud is the easiest way of showing them that it doesn't contain an E. You might want to take a look at your own insecurities before you start labelling others.

Mods, apologies for the off-topic discussion, but really...

Your missing the imo bit, and your statement is subjective. And fwiw dhamsta, you may have not intended to be condescending, you were.

But how can you draw the line between conscious and non-conscious? Surely every animal is conscious, just to varying degrees. Obviously we can't compare the intellect of a fly to that of say a dolphin, but for example both sheep and chickens are notoriously dumb animals. So does this mean we should hold them in the same regard as flies?

    Thank you.

When I swat a fly, I roll up a paper and swat it, I don't dress up in camaflage and take pot shots at it with a high powered rifle from behind the sofa.

Personally, I'm against hunting, but that should be nothing to do with this thread. The thread is about whether or not the pictures should be aloud. The pictures offend a lot of people and therefore should not be aloud. The same as Michael Jackson jokes, dead baby jokes and a whole load of other things that are banned but no illegal. They are in bad taste.

That’s the real issue, are they?

The said jokes aren't offensive to many people but they are undoubtedly in bad taste. Just because these pictures are found offensive by some people does not automatically qualify them as being in bad taste.

Hunting and killing animals is something that we've been doing since the dawn of our existence and in many ways is one of the most natural pursuits that people engage in. To many modern city folk (OK, I'm generalising here) the sight of a dead animal can be shocking or disturbing, for the simple reason that it’s something that they rarely, if ever, see. But if you lived in an environment where it is a normal occurrence to see a rabbit being eaten by a dog, a chicken caught by a fox, a bird caught by a cat or a lamb getting it's eyes pecked out by crows you'd realise that this is a natural everyday occurrence and as such cannot be compared to jokes about a man raping little boys!

I can see how some people could find these photos offensive. But this has more to do with their over-sensitivity to the subject than the subject itself being offensive.

Homosexuality, mixed-race couples, obesity, the drinking of alcohol, and Jackie Healy-Rae are offensive to a lot of people as well. Are we banning those too?

Has this just not been noticed by an admin yet, or is it actually allowed on boards? It's bad enough that they can discuss killing animals here, but to post pictures of the dead animals??? Are you ****ing kidding?

They are disturbing pictures alrite. To me they would be like posting up pictures of your dead relatives. :( I would object.

Yes. We should. Hell while we're at it, lets ban humour, it offends the germans.

hum... So when hunting is banned in Ireland, does that mean that the shooting forum will be closed down?
I guess so, and i can't wait for the day :p

Then I suppose we'd better ban all discussion on the topic of Abortion or drugs while we're at it. Hell, let's just censor any discussion we deem antisocial.

What a bunch of middle-class, pseudo-liberal idiots...

Given that target shooting is the largest and most egalatarian sport in the world (in terms of participation, as opposed to terms of couch potato neilson ratings), I very much doubt it.

I love the way the anti-hunting people equate photos with pornography. I take photos of lots of things so does that mean that if I take a photo of my guitar or a band I like that I'm making porno? I get some pleasure out of it but it's not sexual. I'm sure it's the same for hunters, they are showing off their handywork. You may not appreciate it but another hunter might.

How long before we have a bacterial-rights campaign?

The Admins own this site. They make the rules. Get over it.

This is like going into a house, seeing a picture of something, and being offended. So what do you do? If you dont want to see dead animals go to the PETA forums. You have already seen these photos. You know to avoid it in future. For people who want to see these photos they know where to go. Everybody wins.

Personnally i wouldnt feel compelled to look at dead animals, but if people are then who am i to stop them?

This forum and thread is a v.small part of boards, a lot of people wouldnt have seen the thread only for you.

bla bla bla, i could ramble all day about what tards some people are but i think ya can get the gist

That's probably the most likely place to find photos of dead animals. PETA is a magnet for the kind of nutjobs that post photos like this to "educate".

Personally, I don't like the images but there are a lot of things in this world that I don't like. :)

I will refer the next section to the issue of Deer hunting in Ireland as I was able to find documentation about it on the www.oasis.gov.ie website. Also, I believe there to be one image of a hunted dear in that thread.

    [documentation]http://www.oasis.gov.ie/culture_and_recreation/sport_and_leisure/sport_in_ireland/deer_licences.html?search=deer+hunting

On the above website it states that to own a deer hunting licence one must be over 16. Therefore my conclusion would be that all those who posted pictures of animals(deer) that they have shot would be over 16. If a hunting forum is wanted/called for then would an over 16's only rule for the forum be all that bad??

oh and also about deer farms there is one in Michelstown. They appear to have been in buisness for over 12yrs now. http://homepage.tinet.ie/~irishvenison/

Well that is just my two cense.
    A.
