So has the 5th of August been booked? Gentlemen, this is going nowhere fast, everybody who wants to get on board ought to do so swiftly, we need to get some agreement as to what is going on here.

Date: 5th of August. If it is still available, is that ok with everybody who is down as particpating?

Bands: Apollo Creed, Jekyl, The Chapman Society, Fired For Theft. Are we running with this, is everybody happy?

    Some input would be fantastic.

    It would be..(bangs head)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭NeMiSiS

Fifth of August sounds great, I'l bring a back line amp for guitar(Marshall TSL 100, 4 * 12 cab.. actully might have a 2 x 12 then..) . Can't promise a bass amp but will look into it, don't count on it though..

Fire us an email if you want to get in touch about anything, it is probably quicker.

We're up for 5th August alright. We may be able to supply a bass amp if it's required, but I really wouldn't use my kit if at all possible as it's a piece of shít. If necessary it can of course be used.

Giblet, can you get in touch with Kirn again to see what the deal is with the date?

I can bring a kit, not great, Pearl export, but will do the job if there's nothing better. I would recommend each drummer prepare to bring as much hardware (stands, basically) as they can to ensure as swift a changeover as possible. Setting up stands is such a waste of time, if we can just have each drummer carry their set up stands onstage with cymblas and snare already on, it should mean more time for music.

5 piece? Good nick? As much as I hate changing over cymbals and stands it's probably the best way alright. Any lefties playing?

I really can't see this going ahead successfullly, sorry. The enthusiasm's not there.

I have to agree. It's about a month and a half til August 5th. Would that be enough time to get all the bands sorted and get banners and crap in rotation? Maybe moving it to Halloween or Christmas?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Aye, I think you're right, Robbie. No word from Kirn, I'd guess the 5th has long been booked by someone else :(

    FFS!

i'm waiting on a definite, but i didn't wanna book it cos.... den den deeeennn..

Now we can get the 6th too. maybe a better option?

SO: i need a definite by 11 o'clock tomorrow morning.

either the 5th or 6th of August until 11.
    please be fast.

    rock and indeed, roll.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Thanks Kirn, apologies for being the pessimist. Our singer will be in the UK on the 6th though, if everyone feels the 6th is the better option though, go for it :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

FFS anyone else care to comment about the 5th or the 6th? Anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭NeMiSiS

Jekyl is cool for either date.
    Tom

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Which would you prefer though? Personally I think the Saturday is a better choice for the event, it gives everyone a chance of making it up from the country, should be bigger numbers that way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭NeMiSiS

Yeh probably, preference would be Saturday allright.
There's the bones of six weeks to get this whole thing on the road, I think that's a fair amount of time?
    Tom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,522 ✭✭✭Dr. Loon

Saturday would obviously be a better date, but both are good for us. Friday obviously suits everyone, so I'd kind of be inclined to go Friday, but like I said either is cool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Isn't Friday the usual day for Boards Beer type things?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Boards Beers, Saturday 25th June...

    Perhaps it isn't...

    ok, so?

i have to call him now, and i'm going to finalise the friday because no-one seems to be able to make a decision. ok?

come on guys, whats the story?
no-one seems to be very interested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,522 ✭✭✭Dr. Loon

I'd say go with the Friday so we can stick with the original agreed line up. Although I've no objections if anyone doesn't wanna do that. Thanks again Kirn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭NeMiSiS

    Yeh go with Friday.
    Tom

Best to announce this after the Beers that are happening this month.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 528 ✭✭✭kirn

    gig is confirmed.

    Saturday 6th August.
    from 8-11 on stage.
    we get doors from 8-10.

    price is *** + vat.

we need to organise ourselves a bit better folks!

next thing - running order + times.

****e, I thought you said you booked the Friday, didn't see the edit until now. Our singer's away on the 6th so we're out.

    Band needed.

Anyway - Schedule: doors at 8, first band at 8:30? €5 at the door.

35 minutes playing time each? 7 minute changeover realistic?

    Band 1 - 8:30 - 9:05
    Band 2 - 9:12 - 9:37
    Band 3 - 9:43 - 10: 19
    Band 4 - 10:26 - 11:01

I would propose we will need a stage manager and a stage hand to run things on the night and help getting gear on and off the stage and to keep the bands in check, time-wise. Volunteers/Nominations? If everybody pulls their weight and doesn't act the bollix we should be able to get the changeovers done quicker and give the last band some extra time to play. There can be no excuses for running over. This'll be hard work but if we all pull together it should give an evening of quality tunes for everyone.

sorry man, as you can see up to my post people were saying saturday and no-one got back when i pushed friday.

didn't wanna lose the date altogether.

anyway - i say each band 30 mins. a solid 30 minute set is perfect. plus it gives a bit of breathing space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭Seany

Im the singer in Doc J's band....How is this gig now happening on Saturday?

If you read back, there were 3 posts from people representing bands playing saying we were going with friday.

Unfortunatley, having been told that the friday night had been confirmed (in your original post), I booked an 8am flight to UK on Saturday morning (supposed to in UK fri nite ) and now wont be in the country to play the saturday gig. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,006 ✭✭✭Baggio

I feel a 30 minute massive drum solo coming on ;)

should be goood...if our f***&*g singer was up to speed we'd be glad to help out and fill a slot...but...*sighs*

    will be there anyway...Baggio...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 528 ✭✭✭kirn

i had to finalise the date for 11 on the 15th.
if you read posts 174 - 181 people seem to want the saturday.
i had to book it, on reading the thread, i went with the saturday feeling it was what people wanted.

if this is a problem i will call and cancel the gig asap and we can organise another date for someother time.

Dont get me wrong mate, not saying to cancel the whole thing!

I can see where you are coming from but from the later posts (evn the ones on th 15th) I thought we all agreed on Friday and it was booked for Friday. That is why I waited and re-arranged my travel plans.

Ah well, just the way it goes... Doc, you'll get to play at one of these things yet ;)

shame DJ you'll be missing out on ANOTHER of these if it's sat

Ahh well, roll on Boardstock Vol 4.

Lads, ye need to get yer arranging hats on. Since we won't even be in Dublin that day, we won't be bringing drums or the guitar amp we would have.

So the only backline arranged is Nemisis' marshall amp.

You need to sort out a guitar amp, bass amp and drum kit (at least).

You also need to make some sort of effort on agreeing running order and playing times. Someone needs to take control of this or it'll be a shambles. You also need a fourth band on board ('scuse the pun). Get this stuff sorted now so you can spend the next few weeks promoting the thing and making sure folks show up. The responsibility for the event being a success rests squarely on the participating bands shoulders. This is a Boards event but you guys have to get it organised. Kirn has done his bit, it's time ye all showed a bit of enthusiasm and get it arranged asap so eveybody has something to get excited about. At the moment, you've got to ask, how can anybody else get excited about the evening when the bands playing don't seem that pushed?

Sorry for the rant, but anyone reading this thread would think ye didn't want to play ;)

I would volunteer your good self for one/both of these jobs but you're not around are ye?

I've been off for a few days, and haven't been checking up on this thread. Anyways, regarding equipment I'm fairly sure we can provide a bass amp. We could also probably provide another guitar amp if required. Either way, doesn't matter.

On the drums, I really wouldn't use my kit. It's seriously bad right now, but if necessary we could use it. Does anybody know what the story with sound engineer is in here?

Charging a fiver seems reasonable. What's the overall cost of the place? As for running times, I'm not majorly pushed about when we go on, although I'm sure nobody wants to go on first. Can we arrange some sort of names out of hats type job?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Nah, I'm in Galway on the Saturday :(

I'd push for ye to go on last. TBH I think your style of music would be just the tonic at that time, when everybody has warmed up/had a few drinks and would be ready to get up and swing. It's the most danceable music of the three bands stated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,006 ✭✭✭Baggio

    Very Dissapointed for ya Doc.J.
...Oh well maybe no 4 youll be there and maybe then my own lot will get the call too??..seriously hot classic rock/hard rock covers band who in 30 mins would let loose 7 or 8 terrific tracks that anyone would enjoy. We'll see,,and yeahh Doc the whole red machine will be available too...no need to panic the rest of ya's!..is not THAT hard to set up/mic up etc, we'll find a way and put on a really top notch show complete with mighty drumset backdrop :)

looking forward to the one ain august anyway

    ciao' amigos...Baggio....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭NeMiSiS

    Got to bow out lads.
Bass player has left the band, and the drummer doesn't seem interested in the band no more either. Found out as of a half hour ago.
    Apoligies.
    Tom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,476 ✭✭✭ShriekingSheet

to be honest my enthusiasm has been a little curbed because the date is a little iffy for us

But I'm pulling out several stops to try make arrangements so we can play

    50/50 i'm afraid but i'm staying positive
