Adds a whole new meaning to "painting post boxes green".

I claim they should be listed monuments......

I wonder will the IRA proceed on a programme of blowing up post boxes?

Strange that Sinn Fein are calling for this now as it goes directly against what was said in this article in An Phoblacht
    http://republican-news.org/archive/1998/October29/29gino.html

"They are part of our history. They were bequeathed to us as part of the postal services, and are part of our culture and heritage, and we have no plans to make changes on the basis of any pseudo-republican claptrap.

    Sums it up really.

I've an idea - lets swop post boxes for guns?

Although, I've not heard of anyone else being oppressed by post boxes. :D

Does seem a bit silly. I am surprised at Sean Crowe for that one.

What next, telling the RNLI their services are no longer required?

Hmmmmm... pity its the Irish ones that are getting nicked, and sold on ebay, to the yanks.

Anyhoo's... whats next? Blow up the GPO, the Customs House, and Trinity, to make way for "republican" buildings?

Pseudo-republican claptrap is the best words to describe it.

Whats wrong? CAN YE NOT POST HANDGUNS WITH THEM??? They not fit in the holes?:D

I would say ‘here, here’, but that might sound very British. And I wouldn’t want to make anyone feel oppressed.

    Agreed.

I like the look of them. As with the look of the Bank of Ireland, TCD, the GPO, the Customs House, the Four Courts, Leinster House and some other examples of foreign or imperialist claptrap left lying around and used.

When I was in 4th year my history teacher brought us on a walk down the road to show us "victorian monuments" in rathgar. I remember him specifically pointing out a post box with a crown! It is history now, it's such ridiculous nit-picking to suggest we replace them.

An Post have dismissed the call as "pseudo-republican claptrap".

    Brilliant..well done An Post.

Really, if we follow Mr Crowe's logic we might as well get rid of half the country!

Didn't we do that 80 years ago?

(oops, can of worms, let's not go there)
