    Well, the premiership is all decided now bar relegation issues (come on Southampton!). Jus wondering what kind of a team of the year people on here will come up with. Here's mine;

GK - Cech (Chelsea) - No competition really.

LB - Heinze (Man Utd) - Best Utd player this year.
CB - Terry (Chelsea) - Best player this year full stop.
CB - Carragher (Liverpool) - Toss up between him and Hyypia.
RB - Neville (Man Utd) - Just couldnt think of an alternative :D .

LM - Duff (Chelsea) - Different class to Robben imo.
CM - Lampard (Chelsea) - Goals all season ground out results.
CM - Carsley (Everton) - I'm as surprised as you.
RM - Downing (Midd'boro) - Answer to England's Left sided problem?

CF - Henry (Arsenal) - Top scorer. Couldn't leave him out. I tried.
CF - Johnson (Palace) - Amazing goals with little or no service.

    SUBS:

CB - Hyypia (Liverpool) - Top class defender.
CM - Makelele (Chelsea) - Does a real job for Chelsea.
CF - Defoe (Spurs) - Shed load of goals this year for him.

LB - Heinze (Man Utd) - Best Utd player this year.
CB - Terry (Chelsea) - Best player this year full stop.
CB - Carragher (Liverpool) - Toss up between him and Hyypia.
RB - Ferreria (Chelski) - Part of one of the best premiership defences ever

LM - Duff (Chelsea) - Only cause of robbens injuries
CM - Lampard (Chelsea) - Goals all season ground out results.
CM - Gerrard (Liverpool) - carsley? dont make me laugh!
RM - Riise (Liverpool) - Unbelieveable left peg, works hard for the team

CF - Henry (Arsenal) - Quality year as usual!
CF - Johnson (Palace) - Amazing goals with little or no service.

    SUBS:

CB - Hyypia (Liverpool) - close between him and carragher!
CM - Makelele (Chelsea) - madrid miss him bad
CF - Defoe (Spurs) - Shed load of goals this year for him.

    GK Cech ( bloody unbelievable)
LB Heinze (one of the best buys of the season)
RB: Ferreria (after slowish start established himself well, that crucial interception on Gerrard in final)
CBTerry (the guy keeps getting better and better)
    CB Carragher (tough as nails)
LM this was between Duff and Robben but Duff has done it well for 2 years now with Chels)
CM Lamps ( he's got an amazing amount of assists and range of passing has imptoved greatly in the 3 years he's been here)
DCM Makelele ( so small but strong as an ox, has the ability to hold off challenges and always mops up)
RM: SWP ( so small but so quick and has scored some great goals)
Henry ( the best striker in the PL)
Johnson ( most underrated player this season along with Claude)

GK - Cech (Chelsea) Next in line for best keeper in the world.

LB - Heinze (Man Utd) superb player just wants the ball more.
CB - Cunningham (birmingham) great season solid as a rock
CB - Carragher (Liverpool) - Best Pool player this season by a mile.
RB - Noone comes to mind as outstanding as the rest of the team, will edit later.

LM - Duff (Chelsea) - League winning goals.
CM - Gera (west Brom) - Hopefully playing for one of top 3 next season, hes that good.
    CM -Alonso (Liverpool) - Awesome.
    RM -Cahill - Great season

CF - Henry (Arsenal) - Quality year as usual!
CF - Rooney(man Utd) shooting ability is amazing.

    SUBS:
RM Ronaldo (Man Utd) decent season entertained me.
CB Terry (Chelsea) just edged out by Cunningham. Easier to defend well with an awesome midfield protecting you.
CM Fabregas(arsenal) lad will be special.

Lads stop including Johnson please yes hes put in with 20 goals but 10 of them were penalties. He's not that good a player if you are going to be honest.

Which he won himself, any player with 20 goals and sitting in the bottom 3 has to be doing something right. One hit wonder maybe , shown up with a decent team maybe that too, for this season he has played very well.

He's done well and hes really been punching above his weight, id have henry, crouch, defoe and rooney in there before him. maybe even fowler :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,011 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

Henry, Rooney and Defoe are all better players than Johnson, agreed. He gets into my team at least for the fact that he scored 20 goals for a bottom three club. Although the penalty count is huge, he still had to convert them and lead the team all year. I see them going down and I dont see him being picked up by a bigger club but his achievement this year has been incredible.

But its all about the best players OF THIS SEASON. There's no denying that he can score goals and has been a really good player during the season. If palace to manage to stay up it will be down to his goals.

    My Team:

GK - Cech (Chelsea) - good season. Hasn't been too many keepers with his records

LB - Heinze (Man Utd) - Complete nutjob and a great defender.
CB - Terry (Chelsea) - Best player this year.
CB - Carragher (Liverpool) - Surprisingly good at CB.
RB - Hibbert (Everton) - Mr.Consistent this season for the toffees.

LM - Duff (Chelsea) - Quality player. Better impact on the team than Robben IMO.
CM - Lampard (Chelsea) - Goals all season ground out results.
CM - Cahill (Everton) - £1M? Best buy of the season. Great player!
RM - SWP (Man.City) - great player with a fantastic workrate.

CF - Henry (Arsenal) - 30 goals this season. Nice one.
CF - Defoe (Tottenham) - Very impressive this season.

    Subs:

GK - Martyn (Everton) - Great season for Everton. Experience and great goalie
D - Carvalihio (Chelsea) - Great season. Great pairing with Terry.
M - Makalele (Chelsea) - Good hard worker.
M - Robben (Chelsea) - Great player. Give him the ball!!!
F - Johnson (C.Palace) - Scoring 20 odd goals for palace show he has some quality.

    Tim Howard

Lauren - Richard Dunne - Sol Campbell - Gareth Barry

Shaun Wright Phillips - Igor Biscan - Lee Bowyer - Lauren Robert

    Jermain Defoe - Yakubu

nlgbbbblth that is a really really weird list

    Gk Cech

    LB Heinze
    CB Terry
    CB Carragher
    RB Ferreria

    LM Duff
    CM Lampard
    CM Xabi Alonso
    RM Wright-Phillips

    CF Henry
    CF Rooney

    Subs:
    Hyypia
    Johnson
    Cahill

Dunno about Ferreria, but I couldn't think of any outstanding right backs this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,982 ✭✭✭Big Ears

    Cech
    Ferreira Carragher Terry Heinze

    SWP Makelele Lampard Duff

    Henry Johnson

subs: Given , Carvalho , Riise , Cahill , Defoe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

    Cech
    Neville-Terry-Rio-Heinze
    Duff-Makelele-Lampard-Giggs
    Henry-Johnson

    Why Giggs?
    Assists - 10 || Robben has 9, Duff has 4, SWP has 6
    Goals - 8 || Robben 7, Duff 6, SWP 9

Giggs wins on all accounts except goals scored by SWP

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 403 ✭✭case n basket

Only 5 of those goals have been in the premiership. Pires has scored 11 goals in the premiership this season, that doesn't mean he's been the best left winger. 3 of Man Utd's back 4 in the defence? hmm.

In fairness to Robben it also needs to noted:

Yeh, I'd put 3 of 4 United's defense this season.
I think Carvalho and Ferreira while are two of the best players in the world, especially the latter, have been injured/havn't preform this year.
I think in a Cole vs. Heinze battle Heinze wins this year.
I think Neville is the best right back in england atm, and the players argee with me :)
Rio is just outstanding for United week in week out, just like Terry is for Chelsea. Thats a toughie though with Carragher who has been amazing.

I'm just using the stats to show that Giggs hasn't done nothing bad this year :)
The reason I put him in is because he won 6 straight games for United on his own preformances :)
And Robben has been injured this year, and I'm sure if he played the full season he'd be astronomical. That said, I didn't put Van Nist in there ahead of Johnson :)

On the subject of Johnson, sure weren't Phillips and Beattie having the same sort of seasons a couple years ago, and never went anywhere for it, both were having the same sort of shocked "how didn't they get into the england team" reactions. Next season will tell if Johnson is a good player or not (whatever club he's at).

Its a case of Ferreira and Finnan having had better seasons , although the players disagree .

    Well its weird cause
Tim Howard - Quite a few mistakes this year, and Cech has been unreal
Lauren - Is why Arsenal lost to United twice because of his bad defending.
Richard Dunne - Has done well, but like come on, Terry has been the world player of the year imo!
Sol Campbell - Has been out for soo damm much of the season
Gareth Barry - I've nothing to say about him
    Shaun Wright Phillips - Fine
Igor Biscan - What Liverpool games have you been watching this season?
Lee Bowyer - Eh, rascistt ****er who actually fought with his own teammates
Lauren Robert - Laziest player ever, didn't defend, doesnt have the ability to attack, had at most 3 moments of magic this year, and for the rest was utter ****e
    Jermain Defoe - Quality
Yakubu - Somewhat impressive, although not prolific.

Nothing to do with Chelsea, although Terry!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

I'm a bit flabbergasted why you included Bowyer, you do realise he's the orc from Lord of the rings, you really think he had a good season?

    Most Improved/Unsung Heroes XI:

    Martyn

    Hibbert
Dunne (I know it sounds weird, the last couple of seasons hav been abysmal for him, but this season he played like a man possessed at times, and IMO deserves this for his performance in the win against Chelsea on its own)
Senderos (finally we've found a f**king back-up centrehalf who isn't Pascal "TurningCircleOfAnOilTanker" Cygan)
Carragher (much, much better this season at centre-half)

    Fabregas (outstanding)
    S Wright-Phillips
    Cahill
Giannakopoulos (weird choice maybe, but he's so much better now than last season I had to put him in)

Johnson (even better in the Premiership - amazing)
Defoe (again, a truly amazing improvement on last season)

    Now the PROPER ELEVEN!!!!

    Petr Cech (who else?)

Gary Neville (Despite how much I dislike the man, he's still the best right-back in England)
    John Terry (nuff said)
Alan Stubbs (A lot of the solidity of Everton's defence has been down to him)
Gareth Soutgate (Boro wouldn't be where they are without him)

    Arjen Robben
    Frank Lampard
    Damien Duff
    Robert Pires

    Thierry Henry
    Andy Johnson

Jesus, I'm still unsure about this as well. Wayne Bridge would probably have made it had he not got injured, tho I'm still confused with my own lack of Arsenal players (they are 2nd after all, and in the FA Cup final). But it has been Chelsea's season, and this is pretty much reflected in my XI

Just getting back in time with the Andy Johnson story.

Dont forget that even though he has 10 converted spotkicks this season, he has equalled Alan Shearers record.

Yes you are reading correctly, not even Henry or Van Nistelrooy have scored more than 10 penalties in a Premiership campaign

Johnson - pool player next season
    Henry

I'm going with a 3-5-2, because I prefer that formation. The upside is a very watertight defence and also Gerrard and Lampard can both get out at the one time. The downside is unfortunately no room for Robben or Duff. Neither would drop to defend when needed in this formation.

GK - Cech [Chelsea] - He has had an excellent first season in England. Admittedly, the defence in front of him has helped a lot, but he is still the best in the Prem, IMO.

CB - Ferdinand [Man Utd] - Not my favourite player by any means but I have to admit when he is absent for ManU it shows.
CB - Terry [Chelsea] - A good all round centre half. Instils confidence at the back and can pop up with the odd goal.
CB - Carragher [Liverpool] - Without him Liverpool would not still be in the Champions League. Has this season become Liverpool's most influential defender. Always gives 100% to the team.

RWB - Finnan [Liverpool] - Not easy to find a player equally at ease wide mid and right full. Stevie fits the bill better than anyone else.
LWB - Cole [Arsenal] - I'm a big fan of Heinze but I think Cole is more productive going forward.
DCM - Makelele [Chelsea] - The holding MF role goes to this guy because I don't think there is anyone better in the Prem at protecting their defence. He is excellent at spotting where problems might arise and makes a difficult job look easy.
CM - Lampard [Chelsea] - An extraordinary season from a player who I used to regard as average. Has an apparent will to win which surpasses most and has a handy knack for scoring important first goals.
CM - Gerrard [Liverpool] - Despite his up/down season I think Stevie deserves his place. He would complement Lampard and Makelele perfectly in this midfield — not that I ever want to see it, of course! :) Alonso would have been in it but for his injury.

CF - Henry [Arsenal] - Another prolific season means he deserves his place. There are some question marks about is ability to score in the big matches but he is still be best the Premiership has to offer up front.
CF - Johnson [Palace] - What a first season! The naysayers insist that he will fade away to obscurity next year. I hope not, but based on this season he has to be there.

GK - Czech - easy choice
RB - G Neville - no one else
CB - Rio - Utds Defense tightened up after he came back
CB - Terry - easy choice
LB - Heinze - Best around
RM - SWP - very direct
CM - Lampard - goal machine from MF
CM - Makele - Best at this job
LM - Duff - more effective than Robben
CF - Henry - goal reord says eough
CF - Rooney - superb for his age

I know there are 3 Utd defenders and only 2 Chelsea but individually the Utd defenders have been better.

    Cech

    Heinze
    Terry
    Ferdinand
    Finnan

    Makelele

    Duff
    Lampard
    SWP

    Rooney

    Henry

Subs: Given, G Neville, Cahill, Giggs, Johnson

Hate the fact that I have to include Johnson cause I dont rate him but I am going by players for the season.....think Johnson will be a flash in the pan....what was the name of that Bolton player who got one cap for England and hasnt been seen since? was with Boro and went to Leeds and even they loaned him out!! another one of those....

Apart from that I cant see a team in England or Europe beating that line up....have gone for people who not only have had a good season this year but have been playing well for a few years....thats includes Cech because if you want Europe footie he has been great for a couple of season!!!

Included Rooney because of his pure brillance at times...also seems to have finally cut out the cursing in his game....see yesterday where he lost the ball and ran back and got it back.....Fergie starting to work wonders......Given was a close second for the starting spot in goal....has played a blinder in front of another seasons crap defence.....also nearly included the "Honey Monstor" Dunne.....he has been class and the only decent player all season with City(that include SWP because he blows hot and cold)....and Sebthebum why do you say the last few season have been abysmal for him??? has been consistant for 2 season now.,....was 3-4 season ago he showed up hammered at training and had the problems.....

Now in right side midfield I have given to SWP because nobody else this season has been playing a blinder...>Ronaldo ran him a close second but for overall brillance it went to SWP....>Duff was easy choice with Giggs supporting from the bench.....Lampard does not need to be discussed with Cahill supporting from bench....great first season for him......

DEfence was easy.....Heinze has been great and I love the way he is always ready for a challange.....Terry, wat hasnt been said...another great season....>Ferdinand has been playing great all season since return and then Finnan who has a great player for Liverpool.....like Irwin years ago you kind of forget he is playing because he just does everything right......Carr is a better attacker from that position but had to play with a crap defence and a crap manager now so goes to Finnan.....

I think mainly the eng goals in euros swung it in his favour, was shown up against Milan, scores great goals but very inconsistent, good against Fenerbache terrible against Boro the next wk.

Hasnt scored that many but he is the best in that position in the PL....only really Ronaldiho in World better and he could pass him in a few years.....links up play from midfield and can nip in with the odd goal or 2....wat more you want???

Remember now everyone was trying to buy him for 5-6mil....and Bolton wouldnt sell him...in the end how much did Boro pay for him? 3 mil I think it was...waste of space he was......Johnson is the same....8mil or something someone said Liverpool wanted to pay for him.....you must be mental.....sure buy me for 8mil and I will fall over in the box every other game!!

hes only 19 man, give him a chance, Shearer was very inconsistent at that age too as is pretty much every player. Ronaldo could be muck one week and score 4 the next week for PSV in the early days and when Van Nistel was 19 he played in midfield and got sent off 5 times a season.

Sure even Henry was brutal at that age most weeks out on the right for Monaco.

id agree though, youd find it hard to have him in a team of the season

    Mine:

    Martyn

    Hibbert
    Ferdinand
    Terry
    Heinze

    SWP
    Lampard
    Makelele
    Duff

    Crouch
    Henry

I'm not doubting that Rooney has huge potential (I'm a ManU fan) and probably will become the best striker in England, I just don't think he deserves to be in a team of the season this year.

Andy Johnson's done so well considering the step up in quality he's had to make.

Andy Johnson shouldnt be allowed to tie Rooneys shoe laces!! dont rate him at all....wait till he has stayed 2-3 season in top flight and see what he does then!!
