Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I got caught recently driving 40mph in a 30mph zone in the uk. I have a Irish drivers licence and I was insured under the car that i was driving over there. Does anyone know what legal system in place for penalty points in this situation? i.e the letter said that a 60 pound fine and 3 penalty points would be administered but can the add penalty points to an Irish licence?

You will end up having to pay the fine. Any points would probably be added to your licence if you ever live in the UK or get a UK licence.

Not paying the fine / not answering a summons may mean being arrested the next time you enter the UK.

Thanks for that Victor. Unfortunately i am going to be moving to the uk soon so i probably will get the points one way or another by the looks of it.

is that the same here? and if so has it changed in the last 20 years?

When mymam moved over ,around 25 years ago, she was told whe had to swap her German licence (which took months to get at a cost of a few grand in lessons and the like required over there) for an Irish one, not sure if it was the Insurance company or the licencing authority though.

Yes, it's the same throughout the EU. Don't know when it changed, but I'm sure it was less than 20 years ago. You can keep your EU licence until it expires, however long that is. My Dutch licence lasts 10 years as do many others.
