Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. From a neutral's point of view, I would like to wish both sets of supporters the very best of luck tonight. Here's hoping for a far better game that last week. One would suspect that this has to be the case. I'd imagine that the atmosphere will be something else also tonight. It was dire at the bridge last week.

If I was forced to make a prediction I would have to say it will probably end in a score draw with chelsea going through on the away goal. A plus for liverpool though, may be the fact that Duff looks like he wont be playing again. Chelsea dont look the same without his pace down the wings.

Just over an hour to kick off now

The game is being shown by 264 tv stations! Dunno how many are live but apparently thats a new record for a football match.

Liverpools Radio City Commentary (they'll explode if we win!)

Christ can we not just get Duff and Robben playing at the same time JUST ONCE in this CL!!!

    One question WHY?

We spend all season supporting english teams and you would sooner see a dutch or italian side winning.... odd

    No Duff, no Robben.
I think Liverpool could edge this

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,049 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

    Goooooooaaaaaaallllllllllll

    Liverpool 1 Chelsea 0 Garcia 3 mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Don't think that was in. Reckon Garcia's celebration swayed the decision.
Should have been a peno otherwise.

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,049 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

If it had not been given, then chelsea would have been down to 10 pen. Cech would have had to go. But I agree, I dont think it was in either

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Well, that makes one thing certain.

    No extra time or penalties.

    Well done the 'pool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

No there can be extra time, no penos.
If it is 1-1 at full time, doesn't it go to extra time? Or something weird like that?

CHelsea look lacking up front, but they always do before they score :)

It didn't go over, I'm 100% sure, but it was a peno and 10 men, which I'd say liverpool woul dhave rathered :)

With no Duff or Robben, I havn't seen Chelsea break down a decent defense properly if you know what I mean. It tends to be on the break or at set pieces, which is fine, but you're missing the break this match.
    Its gona be ****ing close

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Well what would Chelsea prefer? That goal to be given or Cech to be sent off and a peno to Liverpool. I know what I would prefer, now all I hope for is that ****ing clown commentating with Townsend shuts the **** up about it.

How can there be extra time if it is 1-1? Chelsea would go through on the away goal. This is the second leg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Yeah away goals, no extra time possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I remember hearing that away goals only count after extra time or something, some weird rule. Or is that the league cup?

    :D

Yeah, it's the league cup alright.

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,049 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

    Yep, league cup maybe.

I thought you would have known all about the away gaol. Remember Porto last season at OT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I remember, I thought it had been changed :)
This aint looking too bad for Liverpool, CHelsea aren't even hammering at them.
Liverpool need a second before half time, that will win this game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭d22ontour

Chelsea should bring on lampard as they don't seem to be doing anything in midfield.Oh wait he is on getting crowded out of it in midfield.Surely a world class player like lampard can make room for himself. :p

Finnan is having an excellent game keeping Joe Cole under wraps...

The only thing here, is that Chelsea seem to be alot more comfortable on the ball that Liverpool, who seem to be rushing every pass.

What are the bets on Carragher pulling down a chelsea player with 1 minute remaining, to save Liverpool, but get booked in the process?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

:D It was'nt a goal but as said it would have been a peno and Cech off so Chelsea should be happy(ish).

Also we hav'nt had a jammy score this season...

The defence could do some knitting as they see of the Blues attack, boy they are really missing Duf and Robben, who is bound to be pushed on screaming if neccessary. Good to see the ref is willing to allow a fast moving game.

    Mike.

Not a good game so far

Looked a goal to me and Cech should have been off anyway

Carvalho! Did I see him spit on Baros as he went down?

    Mike.

Not a good game so far
It was never going to be
Two ultra defensive teams hoofing it from end to end
A dreadful advert for the English game.

No I dont think so. Initially I thought he did spit at him, but I think he just shot him a dirty look and then spat away from him as his ran off...

actually, it looked to me as if Cech was ploughed into....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

The simple fact of the matter is that Cech ran towards Garcia, didn't get the ball and got the player.
    Its a foul
    Whats the verdict?
    Can Liverpool hold out?
Do they need to score again?

Chelsea are seeing alot more of the ball so far in the second half. I feel that if liverpool do score again thats them home and dry. Chelsea are really missing duff and robben all the same. Still feel ehat they will nick a goal though

    cisse to score??

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,049 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

Cisse is on for Baros. Could the script be written for Cisse to score that puts liverpool into the final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Carragher and Finnan are immense in defence, even Traore is having a good game. If I were a Liverpool fan I'd be sweating it till the end, if Chelsea score, it's as good as a winner with the away-goals rule.

Good switch by Benitez I think; the game wasnt going Baros' way, and Cisse may bring something new to the party.
