I disagree with the statement that St. Anger is "Crap", "Piss" and so on.

I think it's an enormously powerful album. Some hell-raising songs in there. Stadium choruses don't come much better than in St. Anger and Frantic. And nobody can deny that the album as a whole contains some of Lars's best drummery to date.

Sure, it's very different to Metallica's previous work, but it DOES signify a new direction for a band that, let's face it, badly needed a new direction. But it's hardly fair to say that because an album is different, it's crap.

    Anyone agree with me?
yep I agree just because it was different doesnt mean it was piss , personally it wasnt to my taste and not what I was expecting but I still love Metallica .I found it to be for me their worst album but I mean their worst which still makes it cool , not many bands can reach metallica`s standard , It was different at least they tried something different.Metallica rule!

Yeah, St Anger is a decent album, just not up to the same kinda scratch of the previous attempts. Also, Load is a good album and doesnt deserve the abuse it egts imo.

Wasn't "Metal Up Your Ass" supposed to be the original proposed title for the album that ended up being named "Ride The Lightning"?

    that was Kill Em All
my fav would be master of puppets

    i hated st. anger btw
but load is definitely better than people give it credit for, blleding me i think is excellent

My personal favourite has gotta be ...And Justice For All, its just mastery, and probably Kirks most inventive album for solos... And people who think Load/ReLoad/St.Anger are crap annoy me. St.Anger i'll agree lacked in places, but The Unamed Feeling, come on, thats a great song! As for Load and ReLoad, Load was the first album I ever heard, closely followed by Justice, and i didnt like Load at all. But it really grew on me and now would probabaly be one of my more listened to albums! Same with Reload, though it took a while longer!

But whats great about Metallica is their diversity. I mean who wants to listen to a band that releases 11 albums of the same stuff over and over?! Nobody!

    My advice, listen to Fixxxer!

Because we waited 5 years for ......a rock album?

Now if another band had come out with it then it would have been fine but I was expecting a Metal album from Metallica and I was disapointed with it.

no, because they said their next album was gonna be going back to the music of the past ie. Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning, the fact that they said that and made it completly different is what really puts me off it, and Frantic is only good at the start, ok fair enough it influenced some ppl ie. Gwen Stiffani(sp?) "tick tick tick tick" and "tick tock, tick tock" coinkidink? I don't think so :p

"Frantic" riff = warning sound that a truck makes whilst reversing.

Best album = Master of Puppets!

hmm, I didnt really answer the question in hand........

like many, "back in the 90's" I heard metallica 1st on the black album, then later somebody gave me a tape (jeasus, remember them!?) of Master of Puppets.

    it blew my B***KS off.

    So get puppets!

as for St anger "different" does not mean good. The drums sound like a tin can, the riffs are weak at best, maybe 4 good riffs on the whole album. The whole album just sounds like an effort by 14 year olds in a garage. Effort being the operative word.

I too was pi$$ed off when I heard it. Most of the older alblums from Metallica I would listen to regardless of who made them. As for St anger, i rather listen to stereophonics, hendrix, gallagher the list goes on.

At this stage the band has so much momentum I dont think it makes a difference what crap they put out. They could put feckin 50 cent on vocals and people would till buy it. Feckin marketing.

anyway, im starting to rant and its probably better if I do some work instead?

Its tough but Ride The Lightning just about takes the honours for me. I have to say S&M is great aswell. It got me into Metallica after all :D

If you can get your hands on the triple CD from Mexico city you would get all the best tunes, but that was in the box set. I don't think it's possible to pick 1 Metallica album, each one has its own quailities. Its more like they have an album for different humors?? If ya know what I mean?

I'm not a massive metallica fan but i really enjoyed load. Blleding me and outlaw torn are just amazing! They should have amalgamated load and reload though

I agree, i really enjoy listening to it and Reload. It was a good change. I hate it when bands keep releasing the exact same thing over and over and over.

I personally don't actually like Black ALbum (dodges rotten fruit), but I think Reload is great. Maybe it's just me. And Justice + Master are by the far the excellentest, imo.

*throws more rotten fruit* Reload is sh1te! how can anyone like that and Load? its all poppy and stuff, a BIG leap from the first four albums, and not a leap in the right direction! The Black Album was pop too, but it was good

With the exception of Fuel and Better than you, ReLoad was poor at best. Definitely the only Tallica album that doesnt make it into my regular rotation.

Load was alot better. It was a new direction for Metallica and not metal anymore in the strictest sense of the word. It was still good music, I wouldn't go as far as to say pop personally.

I think there are a load of good songs on it- plus it was the second metallica album I bought, plus I never over-listened to it like I did when I first got Black Album. It is really poppy, but I think it works well, there is a huge variation between all their albums. Variety and all that.

If you want to see where the real 'Tallica's at, without the, imo, overhype, get ...And Justice For All. It's before they became HHUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEE but it's every bit as well-produced and thrashy as anything else they've ever done. Particular attention to be paid to the title track, One, Harvester Of Sorrow and Blackened
