Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

At the end of the day, there is no example out there where UEFA have ever made an exception and allowed the holders to re-enter the CL if they have not qualified through their domestic league.

back in the old days when only one team qualified they did it regularly.

Ya maybe, but there is more sense in leaving it the way it has been for the last number of years

But last year if chelsea or arsenal won it they would have went through ,so how is it leaving it the same way if they now put 4th place in instead of the winners

Fair enough, but this is the CL not the European Cup, there have been plenty of changes to the CL from the EC, one of them been that the winners do not get re-entered to the CL.
At the end of the day it is a UEFA rule is it not?

There appears to be a bit of politics and arm twisting at play here.I'm confident that if Liverpool win the CL they will be allowed into next years competition as a 5th English team. The FA have realised that Eufa have no option but to facilitate that an so by taking the stance they did will have secured Five places for their teams assuming Liverpool win.

That is a good point, but then some country has to lose out? Are UEFA brave enough to say to the likes of Ireland, Cyprus or some small league country that their team is not gettin in??

Have pool not some major representitive on the FA who maybe is playing the game this way?

on a minor point, you have to have an even number of teams, so to facilitate Liverpool, you have to kick someone out, or let a few more in, in which case who?

I think UEFA will just pray AC win, i don't think Liverpool will be allowed in Champs or not.

I was talking to a friend about this earlier and he mentioned he was listening to some radio station interview over the weekeend.

Seemingly UEFA have already established rules for allowing the a winner from a league only allowed three entrants. If the winner finish outside the top 3, UEFA have a set process whereby the winner with progress through as a 4th team from that country. They do not have this in place for leagues that are allowed 4 teams as an oversight.. He went on to say that he is 99% sure Liverpool will be entered as the 5h English team at the loss of another country.

Seemingly they don't have a leg to stand on if their decsion to ommit Liverpool goes to the courts.

That is all he can remember unfortunately.

Brian Barwick(i think) is the FA chief and is a lifelong Liverpool supporter but he was does not have a vote on the board.

They are Dave Richards (Premier League), David Dein (Arsenal vice chairman), Rupert Lowe (Southampton), Phil Gartside (Bolton), David Sheepshanks(Ipswich) and Peter Heard (Colchester).

Its a disgrace that David Dein and Phil Gartside did not step down from this committee both have vested interests in what was going on and its riduclous that they were involved in the FA decision to allow the Everton the 4th CL spot.

David Dein cause he doesn't want to have to see Aresnal quailfy and obvious reasons for Phil Gartside.

I think it was Mark Laurenson who commented on what a disgrace it was last weekend.

While it hardly seems right that Pool would get in because of the sponser and tv company money, you can see thier point of view - which is going to draw a bigger audience share? Real Madrid - Liverpool or Read Madrid - Everton? Both could happen of course if 5 teams are allowed and all 5 reach the group stage. As for the issue of needing a "spare" club for Liverpool to play against that should'nt difficult - Waterford FC!

    Mike.
