Airplane is class... along with the Naked Gun Series.

But Roddy Doyles The Snapper is just brilliant.
Cant see it on DVD anywhere though... only the Committments (its ok, but nowhere near as funny)
    Never laughed so much...

In my opinion its a toss up between...

Hotel paradeso (with the guys from bottom)
    Bill and Teds excellent adventure!
    Waynes world 2
    and
    The Life of Brian.
    also :D
    Father of the Bride

That would be the original starring Spencer Tracy, and not the pathetic Steve Martin remake (whatever happened him - he used to be funny), I presume?

Le Chevre - Class film about the unluckiest man alive, sent to find the unluckiest girl alive with Gerard Depardieu. It was on TG4 a few months ago and it very nearly killed me.

Towed in a Hole - Laurel and Hardy
    Groundhog Day
    Young Frankenstein
    Schindlers List ;)

The Odd Couple (1968) staring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon is a classic. This was where all that 'Grumpy Old Men' stuff that they did later came from.

Highly recommended if you've never seen it.

Yeopgijeogin geunyeo - Its a Korean comedy about a bloke and his girlfriend. It is simply the funniest film I have ever seen. Shown for one day in the IFI. Though you can get it on DVD.

    Then in second place
Oh brother where art thou! An amazing film

That scene when they wake up on the floor of the prison cell and go to put their trousers on. Richard Prior: " I can't feel my leg!! I can't feel my leg!!". Had me in tears.

In terms of laugh out loud comedy, There's Something About Mary ,for me.

    Theres Something About Mary
    Southpark: Bigger, Longer, Uncut
    American Pie
    Austin Powers 3

I'm basing these choices on how hard I laughed when I went to see them in the cinema.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 305 ✭✭grimsbymatt

In terms of how hard I laughed, then Naked Gun 2.5 - it had me and my mates rolling in the aisles at the cinema.

But I was a youngster then, my taste's a lot different now - of more recent films, I thought Life Aquatic and Lost in Translation (Bill Murray rules!) were both very funny and extremely charming.

Others: Big Lebowski, Dr. Strangelove ("Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the War Room!"), Withnail & I, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Stir Crazy, See No Evil Hear No Evil, The Producers (Gene Wilder also rules!)... etc.
