what point does pinging boards have?
isnt the server fairly stretched anyway so any ping you get is gonna be exaggerated by the fact that it isnt able to respond super fast?

The response times of my connection are dire. Its NTL starter. However streaming media or gaming is amost impossible with bad pings.

RicardoSmith - I know you live near me (near Coolmine train station, Dublin 15). I am on ntl bb. I'm getting between 25 - 70 ms to www.jolt.co.uk.

I was onto ntl on Thursday who assured me that work on the ntl issues in the area would be completed by Tuesday morning.
    I'll be checking then.

My pings depress me. Now, the only time I can do some online gaming is after midnight.

Usually its playable until about 5 most days, but I cant even play it now. Pings of over 100 to boards at the moment.

    I hate UTV.

Just wondering what u think of my pings, i have eircom homestarter plus package.

Since i've got a wireless router it seems to have affected my gaming. I'm only getting around 70 in game and when a lot of stuff is happening in game, like frags and rapid shooting all over the place, my pings jump up to about 120.

When i link the pc up direct it doesnt seem to make a difference.

    Its not the wireless so.

Those pings looks normal for Eircoms package mabye a little high, but that can be attributed to anything.

Ye, but could it have something to do with the wireless router?? I have the normal modem given to me by eircom and the wireless router connected to that.

Try it without the router, just straight into PC.

Ye problem there though, my modem is set in bridge mode cause that only way to get it to work with the router so dont want the hassle of resetting everything up.

Imwas just wondering if it is the router or my connection that is causing the pings to be worse. Might try it anyway

As for the ntl thing, my pings with it have been ****e of late aswell(that ^^ isn't ntl) as quite a few service outages(i'm in D4 btw)... not exactly what i'd like considering at the moment i'm paying more than DSL users for a slower service........ and considerbly less relyable of late.

Pinging for an IBB Breeze 2Mb in Galway

There not as good as i would think. but sure if your geographically closer to the boards.ie servers or your ISP is on the same backbone as the hosting company then your going to get better pings why boards?
pinging your Gateway or DNS servers would be better to see if your connection's response time.
Also boards would be a slow site compared to the big one's, google.ie

For Gaming at least, it doesn't matter so much if you have a high ping, only that you are are fraction of time behind everyone, play on USA servers and you will notice.
The main thing is that your ping is consistant, the worst thing to have for gaming is a ping that jumps all around the place, this is what makes players seem to warp all around the place.

Thats a bit contradictory... you just said a high ping doesn't matter, but then you went on to say a high ping makes a difference. A high ping IS what means you are a fraction of a second behing people...

Tbph, Anything below 80ms is fine. And most connections will give ingame pings of less than 80.

Any other ripwave users here that can tell me if this is normal or is there something up with my connection? I know Ripwave is supposed to have high latency but should it really be this bad?
