Just wondering if you have to wear a tux to the trinity ball. Will a normal suit suffice?

    Thanks

It is strict black tie afaik

EDIT: You can get a rental pretty cheap at this time of year. ~35euro

I've never heard of anyone been refused entry cos they were wearing a black suit rather than a black dinner suit.

Would it be a sad thing to turn up to the ball alone. I don't have any1 to go to the ball with. Please help

    you can come with me.

Do you know lots of faces around campus? People if you saw at the ball you could talk to and hang out with? If so, go go go.

Also if you're generally good at talking to random strangers and having a laugh with them you'll have a good time.

It's quite often the case that people who come in with a specific bunch loss them all in typical festival style so....

no matter who you arrive with, it is invariable you will lose them for part of the night unless you handcuff yourself to them........

Therefore it doesn't really matter, I end up doing the rounds chatting to the world at the trinner ball......

I've gotten lost the last two trinity balls. Ok last year I was unbelievably locked, but I only found people towards 5 o'clock.

Every year it says black-tie strictly, but in all seriousness I've pics at the ready (which I'll pm if you want, but I'm not putting up) of mates who got in without wearing anything suity or black-tie-y.

But again, it is stated as a rule. A suit would be more then acceptable, but hell that's just me guessing.

Black tie ideally, you can wear a smart lounge suit too - but you do stand out amongst the penguins.......

this is what i was saying to angrybanana, but we couldn't tell if this would be a good thing or a bad thing.

Excellent! So you think I could pull off girlie PJ's? Perhaps a string top and hotpants? :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

Hmm, I dunno post a pic on the aforementioned attire and let us judge.

Lounge suit is the next step up from a business suit but short of a black tie.....

Its a smart, ideally black suit with a good shirt and tie...... waistcoat optional but desirable.....

Right ok, thanks! I'm not too great on my suit classifications at the mo

    Apparently you would!

There is actually a huge range of various styles and combinations.....

Woah, there was me thinking it was just black+white (No pun intended!), it's either a tux or it's not a tux .

Think I'll just stick to dresses :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭DrIndy

Sure, black tie = black tie, but there is a wide permutation between those as well..

Frilly shirt or not? Waistcoat or not? What type of black suit?
    Cufflinks? etc......

I am by no means an expert...... but there are subtleties.... kinda like girls and all their dresses....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭Chick

Yes but at least you can see obvious differences between dresses -length/colour/style etc!

Anyway, that's my lot for tonight. Enjoy the Ball everyone :)

    Til next time kids ;)

bah, in fairness if you wanna look cool, it has to be a wingtip collar :)

Not neccessarily; I rely on my silken re handkerchief!

Is a white shirt necessary? - was thinking of going in a non-white shirt...

And to think I thought men had it easy when it came to the ball! Glad to see so many of you are daring to be different and adding some of your own individual flair!

Oh yeah because most of the time we'd prefer just a loincloth and a club

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭Chick

There's a lot to said for loincloth on the right guy ;)

Perhaps if you wear it with a look of detached, cynical irony. But otherwise, make it pretty obvious that you've got a foot injury..

    Eh white.. ?

You like attention don't you? Cos even the most paraletic people will be staring at you muttering to themselves wtf!

I'da picked pitch black runners meself sans hesitation. I second pet's advice, you'd wanna be limping like you were in war and took extreme action to get off the front.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭Kappar

It's not that I like attention it was just that I wanted something to wear after the ball and thinking that it would be no bother to wear runners (seeing as it seems to be encouraged for girls) i said to myself get a pair them you like them. Now I think I'll "run" out and get myself a pair of cheapo dunnes black runners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,323 ✭✭✭Hitchhiker's Guide to...

25 euro in dunnes for black shoes - you can't beat it - especially since they'll last a year...
