seems to be slowing/stuck for me at the moment, I was getting 1.91mbps/198kps (200-220kps) steady since the upgrade happened around 1pm yesterday, but for the last 5-6 hours it will not go past 1.20mbps/193kps (160-175kps)....still....

Strange I'm getting the full speed from downloads from heanet.ie but transfers from microsoft.com are running at less than 180kb/s.

Could you please do that again, just in in kB instead of Mb?

you can change it by clicking on the "kbps=1000 bits/second Mbps=1000000 bits/second" text on the bottom of the test.

congrats to all the upgraded ones!

I'm not surprised there were fluctuations yesterday, everyone and their mother were running speedtests (me included)! :)

Indeed, it is afterall a shared service.....people who would like a 3Mbps dedicated connection should pay for it, I think a 2Mbps leased line Internet service is about €20k per annum these days?? :)

    Thanks!

    aaah visual pleasure!

    367kb/s wow! that's a lot!

btw, how did you use Remote Desktop, what remote desktop? that comes with Windows or third party?

I tried that(windows one) once but couldn't figure out hosts, because I was behind the router.

It can be a bit tricky when your behind firewalls and have to forward ports and create rules but you would really need to have administrator rights in your company to do this.

I setup everything from my home PC without needing to do anything in the office. The main thing I needed was to be able to access the router from my home PC using an internet browser. This can be done with the majority of routers these days. This way I was able to see where any problems would arise.

For example. I setup my home PC for a remote connection to my office PC but I couldn't connect. I logged into the router from my home PC using an internet browser, checked the firewall log and could see I was being block there. So I created a rule to allow my IP address access. Tried again but still couldn't connect. Check the firewall log again and saw I was being allowed through.

So now I needed to create a rule to Allow And Forward TCP with a port rang of xxxx (default is 3389, but you should change it after you can connect) form IP 81.98.xx.xxx to Forward it to my office PC internal IP address of 192.168.xx.xxx and it worked perfectly.

Once you can log into your office you can then do the Remote connection to your home PC by using your office PC even though you’re really using your home PC!!!

Sweet mother of.... worser and worser:

    Wed, 11 May 2005 18:57:38 GMT
    1st 128K took 359 ms = 365103 Bytes/sec = approx 3038 kbits/sec
    2nd 128K took 1735 ms = 75546 Bytes/sec = approx 629 kbits/sec
    3rd 128K took 875 ms = 149797 Bytes/sec = approx 1246 kbits/sec
    4th 128K took 7937 ms = 16514 Bytes/sec = approx 137 kbits/sec

Rang ntl broadband support at 6:40pm (they're there till 7 supposedly....). At 6.55 got through to a confused young man in tv support who didnt know why i was talking to him, and didn't know why the broadband support people weren't at their desks at 6.55.

Anyway, he was very helpful and tried his best to get me an answer. He did mention there have been 'problems' over the last 24 hours, resulting in a large 'backlog of information which is now being downloaded, resulting in poor speeds'. Hmmmmm. Suggested cycling the modem (done many times already). Ended up that I will rang back again tomorrow.

I'm guessing this has to be contention issues - speeds were prefect at 7 o clock this morning, and also in middle of night judging from some earlier posts.

Lets just hope its teething issues!.

    yep

i'm on the max package for the 3 month trial, and it has been bumped up alright. Must admit that there really isn't much noticable difference in speeds, i guess you can only download as quickly as the 'servers' on the other end allow, and its making shag all difference to before.

I wasn't aware that ntl offered a trial period?. I know they're offering 3 months free plus installation (which I availed of), but a trial?. Are you suggesting you can cancel as per DSL trials?. Can't see anything along these lines on the website.....

oh right - i thought it was a trial period, but its just 3 months free - whoops! I never had any intention of scrapping it anyway, and less so now, cracking service. :)
