    Hi,

Im looking for a black box that will perform mac filtering but not a linux/pc solution, rather a small cheap router with this feature.

This smc broadband router does mac filtering and costs 60euro.

    http://www.clic2it.com/Newproddet.cfm?PartID=921792&CFID=16506022&CFTOKEN=39889171

Its not a bad price, but i dont nead the dsl features. Does anyone know if there's a simple, ultra basic mac filtering box available ? Will i need to run NAT/gateway on it? or can i simply place it in between my 24port hub and broadband dsl router?

Would i be better off looking for a cheap 2nd hand 'managed switch' from ebay or somewhere? Am i right in thinking that a managed switch would do mac filtering and that individual ports could be switched on/off?

What im trying to do is, allow only internet access to certain mac addresses at specific times during the day on my home network.

    Thanks!
    Aido

Ive found a cheaper smc router which appears to do the mac filtering.

    44EURO

    http://www.smc.com/files/AL/MN_7004VBR_MN_E_final.pdf

On page 4.22 of the pdf it shows the 'Access Control' configuration.

Could somebody tell me if this would allow me only allow full access to a group of mac addresses (GROUP1), and restricted 6pm -9pm access to another group of macs (GROUP2), and block everything else, (unregistered macs)

    Thanks

    aido
