Radsl?

    Someone told me that since im on eircoms 2mb bb plus package im on radsl as opposed to adsl.
    Can someone shed some light on this please and indeed explain the difference between the two?

    DSL or xDSL is the name for a family of similiar broadband technologies that work over telephone lines.

    It includes ADSL, RADSL, SDSL, ADSL2+, VDSL.

    Most people call it ADSL, however here in Ireland, almost all of the DSL products are actually the newer RADSL technology.

    RADSL is a variant of the ADSL spec, basically it adds the ability to adapt the speed of the connection (down) in order to cope with people who are very far from the exchange or have bad quality lines.

    RADSL is actually a good thing. If we still had ADSL only, then your line would have to pass at 1m, if it didn't then, you couldn't get BB at all. At least with RADSL, even if your line fails to operate at 1m, you might still be able to get it to operate at 512k or even 256k, which is better then having no bb at all.
