Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Blatter blasts Rooney
    12/05/2005 - 10:01:22

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has attacked Wayne Rooney for his poor behaviour and claimed the Manchester United striker needs “a clip round the ear”.

Blatter followed up his staggering observation by condemning Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who he claims should be “quieter” after matches – presumably a reference to his controversial post-match comments following the Blues’ Champions League defeat in Barcelona earlier this season.

“I appeal to Mourinho and Rooney,” Blatter told the London Evening Standard.

“As stars at such a high level they have a responsibility to the fans as well as the game.

“With Rooney it is a question of education. He should receive a clip round the ear from the management.

“Mourinho is quiet on the bench but he should be quieter after the match as well.

“In football, you learn how to win but you also must learn how to lose. It would be good for Rooney and Mourinho to think about this.”

Rooney’s behaviour has been the subject of intense scrutiny ever since his launched a sustained foul-mouthed barrage at Graham Poll during United’s 4-2 win over Arsenal at Highbury in February.

The English Schools Football Association recently claimed they had dumped plans for Rooney to appear as a star guest at a Coca-Cola Cup U13s semi-final, with chief executive John Read claiming there were “better role models” for the youngsters.

Rooney’s advisors subsequently claimed the 19-year-old had never even been invited to the event, arguing the ESFA were using the player’s profile as an easy way to gain publicity.

United officials will view Blatter’s comments in the same light.

They have not forgotten how soccer’s most prominent administrator jumped on the anti-Rio Ferdinand bandwagon following the defender’s failure to take a drugs test in September 2003, an error which eventually earned him an eight-month ban.

I think he just loves the attention, always seems to come out with contraversial things that have no real purpose except to get people talking about him...bit of a tool i think, and maybe a slight danger to the game..

He is dead right on both counts imo.
May be a pain in the ass but Rooney especially is more so.

he's not exactly the first footballer to curse at officials, but probably the most famous right now, hence blatter's attention seeking comments.

Sure is, hes still very young and being thrown into the world of premiership football must be overwhelming at his age, that being said he has to learn how to control his temper and face up to the fact that everything he does is in the public eye.
Blatter was right to blast him IMO
