Problem with sound on Phillips TV

I have a Phillips 28" widescreen TV, not sure about the model number. I can find out if required.

I have a problem with the sound in that when somebody speaks I need to increase the volume quite a bit to hear, yet there is no problem hearing music or sounds. I end up having to hire it up when there is a dialogue scene in a film and lower it back down for an action scene or where there is music.

I've played around with all the various sound options on the remote to no avail.
Has anybody any idea what is causing this problem?

Does it have a built in centre speaker?

I think it has two built in speakers either side, I'll check for sure when i get home.

Why do you ask about the centre speaker?

Yeah, if the TV had a centre speaker, as Hyzepher mentioned, it could be something to do with Dolby ProLogic (where vocals come from centre).

It could be worth browsing through your Audio menu and seeing if changing anything in there will help. The TV seems to have morphed into a Karaoke machine :)

I have the same problem with the same TV.

There is something in the sound settings that helps me somewhat. Its the equaliser settings. The "cursor" on each one can be moved from left to right or vice versa. On my TV they're all stuck over on the right-hand side - if you bring them all back towards the centre point things improve greatly. Problem is I can see no way of saving these settings, so I have to change them every day (only takes 30 secs though).

Another problem I have with my TV is that when I'm on channel 1, a big white number 1 appears in the top right hand corner, and I can't get rid of it. Same for all other channels incl E1 and E2.

Not sure about Philips but on Sony and JVC, there is an i button that places or removes permanent on-screen display (OSD). Some other sets have it in the menu somewhere.
