    Me too! :)

If I don't get it that, I'll be happy with Science, also in UCD.

I dunno what I'll do if I don't get the course, I'll probably fail french so I won't but I really want to do civil engineering, I have trinity down third, maths after that then science.

im not so sure bout law
like u d 4 years of mental studyin
then sit an entrance exam so u mightnt even get in
do another 2 years in dublin
workin your a** off then look for an apprenticeship which is impossibly hard to get
stay on crap money for a few years before you finally get anywhere

sorry, honestly not tryin to freak you out but i was interested in law too til i heard all that malarky
make sure you know whats ahead of you because a law degree on its own is actually limiting re: law professions

but yeah i decided to do business...possibly with french

You should all go to UCD, best college in the country :P

And for anyone with intentions to go to Galway....be prepared to put up with the most arrogant, pompous individual ever to walk the face of the planet in the guise of your Student Union president there...

Actually it's not limiting at all, ok you are pretty specialised in the subject you are doing, but it opens doors to lots of other things e.g. media, business etc.
*random fact* did you know that Gerry Ryan has a law degree? (currently the highest paid person by rte.....at least I read it in the Indo...)

Law is something you have to be interested in to do it in the first place i.e. not - ooooo I wanna look cool and wear power suits and have an exciting life like they have on "The Practise" - like any other career, you have to research, look into it and be sure its what you want to do.

    :)

I'll be doing Law in GCD, provided I get at least 300 points and have €15000 to spare.
You might not think 300 points is hard to get (I'm doing 6 honours subjects) but right now I feel like it's impossible.
I'm doing economics, business, history, geography, biology and english at honours and maths and irish at pass. I have no clue when it comes to maths and I don't think I'll pass it and economics isn't much better but at least that's honours so as long as I don't fail that one it should be fine. I'm also worried about doing badly in history.

Paddy Reilly... doesn't really have much influence on your day to day life in NUIG. I definetly wouldn't decide against Galway just because he's SU president AND he'll only be there until the elections in March 2006, so even if you do despise him that much, it'll only be for a few months...

    Great college overall though.

Since a few people put down engineering in UCD, I thought this would be worth mentioning. If you get a C or higher (honours) in a language, you won't have to one as part of the course, which is sweet becasue the language crap is on at 5 or 6 in the evening.

    What does that mean?

You do languages as part of Engineering? Wtf?

Here's to me doing Architecture in UCD/DIT in 2 years. I don't want to go to Queens to do it at all.

Was kidding...I know you wouldn't have to see him too much unless you really wanted to (can't imagine why anyone would, but stranger things have happened). You sure he'll be gone after the elections in March though? Maybe that's what they said the last three years.....

NUI Galway is a lovely campus though, beats UCD hands down in that regard.

Well, I'm pretty sure I read in part of his election manifesto/random SIN post/article that he doesn't want to run again after this year, so I doubt he'd go back on that and actually run again.

NUIG is a great campus, the concourse is a bit old and dated, but the rest is nice and unique. There's non of the uniformity of the buildings like in UL, and some are just damn impressive (like the Marine Science). Practically in the centre of town too, 5-10 min walk into shop street, 5 min walk to the on campus accommodation (houses aren't great, but there's a great atmosphere).
Plus, since it's Galway and it's so small, students practically take over during the college term, so nightlife is pretty good too. Generally, just a great place to go to college.

A politician going back on his word.....you're absolutely right...how could I ever have thought such a thing was possible? My most sincere apologies and retractions ;)

Although, four years in sabbatical positions must surely be enough for anyone.

Rest of your post is undisputed...like I said, lovely campus and indeed a lovely city.

Im not interested in being a solicitor or a barrister, and its nothing to do with the power suits but I know where ye're coming from. Theres alot of things that can put u off doing most courses but people are very quick to point out how law isnt all that it seems. Thanks for the advice but ive looked into it all n i no what iz getting into!
