erm ok, as a few of you know through my drunken ramblings and such, i recently reformated my c drive.
problem is that now i cant get my cd-rom workin again. this means that i cant re-install windows, which means i cant get on-line which means no q2. wwwaaaahhhhh.

i have the drivers for the cd-rom. now all i need is the know-hoiw to get them to load up when i boot up me system. do i have to write them into batch files etc? at the moment i have to use a dodgey floppy boot disk. unfortunately most of the stuff wont work on that coz i keep gettin a wrong dos message. i think im using dos 7.
any bods know a quick solution or am i to remain in limbo for a while? of course, if anyone has windows on floppy! <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
ohh, and it says when i boot up S.M.A.R.T capable but disabled. whats this about?
cheers

If you have a boot floppy already it should load the cd-rom drivers on its startup. If the boot disk is proper one it should have some form of cd-rom driver simply copy it to your hd and edit the config.sys and autoexec with its location. Otherwise get a gateway/dell/whatever universal win95 bootdisk from college or a mate whatever.

Winders 95 (upgrade) comes on more than 15 floppys - I recon I can get ya a copy of winders upgrade allright but then you need a copy of winders 3.11 - so all in all arounnd 30 floppys to install - then there the 6 floppys for IE4 ect....thats around a weeks work !!!

Vagggggggggggggggggggggga

ps:- Jasus, I sure can waffle cant I <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

Are you installing Windows 98?

If you have a fairly recent PC/bios, you can set it to boot from the CD-ROM first, and just insert your Windows 98 CD and boot / install from that without bothering with dloppy fisks or anything like that.

Time to put my oar in...
Copy the driver to your bootdisk and the file mscdex.exe

Add this line to config.sys:
DEVICE=a:\.SYS /D:MSCD001

and to the autoexec.bat:
a:\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /L<IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/biggrin.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":D">

Now if all goes well, you once you reboot your CD-ROM should be alive.

To check the dos version just type ver.

Windows on floppy is 30 ****ing disks and takes about an hour to install. I've had to do it tooo many times.

ok, i think i almost have it solved now. after lots of fiddling with my bios, i got it to actually recognise my cd-rom. however it still tells me that anything to do with MSCDEX is a bad command so i guess i am missing that little prog.
with a bit of luck i will get it today and get my stuff together.

as for the windows disks, erm, i was kidding! like f*ck im spending 3 days changin floppy bleedin disks around! i tell you what thouhg, any more fukkin probs with this shaggin puter an im gonna be an expert in fixin the stupid things <IMG SRC="http://lacerta.ucg.ie/boards/smile.gif" WIDTH=15 HEIGHT=15 BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
cheers guys
