Mine is total crap too. I still haven't heard anything from them. I've pretty much giving up. I sent an email on Friday raising a complaint about the service and support. According to their own procedure they have to respond within 2 days which they didn't and have it fixed within 5 days. If it's not done by Friday I will be phoning comreg to lodge a complaint with them.

That's it, it has become completely impossible for me to play online... On Monday an IBB engineer is coming to install a newer radio on my roof with a lower frequency which should strenghten my signal. If this does not fully resolve my problem, I'm cancelling DD and telling them to come pick up their crappy radio. One year contract or not. I don't care, they can sue me if they want... I'll be back home where everybody's got 8Mb proper broadband that actually works!

IBB I no longer dislike you, I am starting to hate you...

And you wouldn't be wrong either fasty! ;)

The infrastructure in France is a little better than here you see. I mean everybody hates France Telecom (same as here with Eircom) but the service they provide isn't that bad. Most people go with cable anyway. If you look at the ISP called "free" for example, you get the "freebox" and for €29.99 a month you have 20Mbit/s down and 1Mbit/s up... No 1 year contract, no download limit, free cable TV, free unlimited national calls...

Now when I get my IBB bill of €80+ EUR every month for 2Mbit/s down - 2Mbit/s up (on paper, in reality I barely get 600kbps down - 400kbps up) it makes me sick. There's no other word for it... That's nearly a grand a year for something useless.

    spooky,

I can understand why they won't send some one out. they know your aerial is fine. Ping your local gateway because I think you will find you get perfect responses.

Steffano, you may be lucky, it looks like your problem is actually with your radio, although the rest of the way probably just compounds the problems.

I would start with your radio and insist that some one come out and have a look at it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,918 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

Well, they're coming Monday afternoon with a new one which has a lower frequency (thus stronger signal) and to check my line of sight as they are building like crazy in D7 at the moment and it is possible a new building is now obstructing it...
IMHO though, I believe this new radio is going to change nothing. I believe the mast is the problem (and every single hop after that...). Don't think they can handle the load anymore with the total over-subscription... :(

In the US, cable companies have the very same problem.

Totally oversubscribed their nodes...which causes a 10Mbit connection to go slower than modems from Monday-Friday at 15:00 to 22:00 when all the kiddies return home from school.
If you dont believe me then take a look at:
    http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all

Same situation with IBB, but even more so IMHO.

It has become so bad that some cable companies have imposed 20Gb caps on 5Mbit lines....a total joke!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 370 ✭✭Adey2002

I agree. the problem is down to all the warez monkeys and leeches that do nothing with their connection but download i24/7. These leeches don't give a damn if the connection is slow because they just leave it running and go off to work/school. It just means they have to wait a day longer for their ripped dvd to download.

IBB were totally stupid and short sighted to realise it would cause problems when they decided to offer a capless service. They just wanted a unique selling point.

I know a lot of people complain about caps but I wish IBB had one and enforced it. then we wouldn't be having this problem at all.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

I most certainly do not want a cap and would immediately terminate my contract if they tried to impose one as i've got a capless contract.

Before you start going on about warez monkeys, how about this: I downloaded Gentoo for a laptop, FreeBSD to upgrade my server and OpenBSD to trial it for replacing a router, not to mention Windows XP SP2 etc. Especially on a multiuser network connected to the IBB system you'd easily go through any cap.

Those are all one off events, I'm talking about the people that just leave their PC's downloading dvd after dvd 24/7.

For me, broadband is only broadband when its not capped or limited. People can waffle on about warez monkeys and linux iso's, but they aren't really going to change other peoples views. People who are getting a good service agree with no caps. People with a bad service want caps.

Of course, caps won't really solve the shoddiness of IBB's management. They're letting their network constantly max out, then they wait, then they upgrade. its a rediculous way to manage a network.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,812 ✭✭✭Drapper

Rumour has it the masts are maxed out again !!! so crappy pings for a bout a week or so until they sort it out !!

4 m8's have it and we all have CRAP pings for about 4 nights now !

I think keeping in touch with others on IBB masts in your area really save so much time! you dont have to keep calling IBB and getting fobbed off !!

State your mast here and problem

Well im still pinging at the 20 mark now after 2 months. They tell me that there is a problem with a router in the atrium so I need to wait for it to be upgraded. They couldent tell me how long it will take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,042 ✭✭✭spooky donkey

Well pings have improved slighly averaging about 130K rather than the 160 but now my downloads are at 50k and uploading at 25k. I think they are putting their heavy downloaders on bad connections now to cope with the load. Ive been downloading a lot cause there was little else I could do with the connection, and now my downloads have gone to pot. I think they should cap all their services as they cant cope with this unlimited service with the number of customers they have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,042 ✭✭✭spooky donkey

Well its still not fixed. Though i was getting good pings last night but downloads are bad. So the Atrium it still in a jock.

The company is a shambles to be honest..

I escalated a problem to them at the end of May and was promised a call back.. Never got anything...

I didn't have time to follow it up and only got around to chasing it up 2 weeks ago.. Was promised a call back once again..

I have called back 5 times since trying to get an update and not one of the ****wits have called me back yet..

Whoever is responsible for monitoring the quality of the customer facing departments needs to be sacked to be honest..

I thought they were going to make big changes after a recent recrutiment push for management heads but this seems to have made little difference..

The core ideas driving the company deserve to be applauded but how alot of these ideas are being executed needs to be seriously re-examined..

It seems like that a new CTO from across the road is the last thing they needed.. A few customer care managers might be a better idea!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,042 ✭✭✭spooky donkey

Yes i fully agree with you. Ive made about 8-9 calls now and still not fixed. It was really bad last night. We changed our servre ping kick to 200 now and I still got kicked off the server last night. Its recomended to be set at 100 and we had it at 150. I get to play a for longer with it at 200 but i still get kicked. You have to ping over 80% pings over 200 for 5 mins before the kick kicks in and im still getting kicked. Bad download speeds as well these days.

Service died last night at about 1am. Im hoping it was for vital repair work. I`ll know tonight after work.

You think you guys are bad, I got a ping of 370 last night playing sof2.....

Everyone else had pings of 80-110

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭dalk

My biggest problem with IBB is packet loss... sometimes i can have 40% packet lost.

Those dropouts can last 5-15 secs which means i get booted from servers pretty quickly... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,812 ✭✭✭Drapper

A mate called to get an IBB instal this morn in D15 (as he had no other option) and an IBB are customer sales person told him not to expect pings of less than 100, seems strange ! must be all the bad PR ! hope they adjust thier marketing materials !!

Some outages last night on quinnesses mast, 3 x approx 15 mins between 1 and 5am, Doesn't look like anything has been upgraded tho, still only getting 200kb down and 60kb up with up to 5-75% packet loss depending on the minute. This is getting truely annoying, does IBB not need customers?
