So far its just a fed-ex slog of killing stuff and bringing stuff to other NPCs to get XP. Every so often i bump into another player killing things and we hack away oblivious to each other. Not much of a multiplayer slant at all if you ask me.

From looking at the map i can see i'm on a small island in the North West.

    1. When do I meet up with other players and go on quests/raids etc?

    2. How do i get there?

Running everywhere takes an age and any time i try to take a "shortcut" off the path i get attacked by one or more spiders/bad guys and die. Then i direct my ghost back to my corpse and ressurect. Usually the bad dude is still hanging around and kills me again. After about 3 attempts i might be able to get back to safety. Very tedious.

    3. Is there a faster way to travel around?

Weapons. While trying to re-arrange my inventory i threw a couple of items on the ground. Poof! gone. that was a bow and a dagger. Spent the next 3 levels trying to kill monsters unarmed. Not fun.

The quest system seems a little poor. I started off by taking a bunch of quests in the same area. Off i went to kill whatever it is they told me to kill. Then back again, but hang on, where do i go? The quest would give you the name of the guy who gave it but it isn't possible to see their location on the map. The only time was when you were close enough that a yellow dot would appear on the minimap. the result of this was that i'd run aimlessly around til it appeared.

i'll post more questions when i think of em.

As you get higher level people group up more. The first levels are easiliest done solo, especially once you know the game. Arguably, all the levels are easily done solo but most ppl like to group up.

When you go back to your corpse to resurrect you can rez anywhere within a certain range of your corpse. You can also see mobs while a ghost if you're near your corpse. So make sure you rez as far away from whatever killed you (and it's friends) as you can.

Best stay to the paths unfortuntely.

You will spend a lot of time running around, you don't get a horse till lvl 40. Depending on your class you may get a speed boost earlier, you're NE I assume from your post so if you're druid or hunter you get a speed increase ability at lvl 30 and 20 respectively I think (haven't played either class much)

The game always prompts me as to whether I really want to destroy an item when i do that. If it did then you can't really blame WoW, if it didn't then very unlucky bug :( I hope you've managed to find a quest that gives some weapon you can use, and you can complete.

Yeah I've done the same. You just have to remember the quest givers location or look them up on http://www.thottbot.com and http://wow.allakhazam.com

Those sites will show you a map with pretty much any NPC's location, or give you the solution to a quest, or whatever. Well worth getting used to their somewhat akward interfaces early, as long as you don't find using out of game resources unacceptable.

That changes at higher levels. It also changes when you actually talk and group with poeple. You get out of it what you put in.

    1. When do I meet up with other players and go on quests/raids etc?

Whenever you want. /1 and /3 to use the chat channels.
    2. How do i get there?

You can get a mount at lvl 40. Untill then you have to learn from your mistakes and not run into aggro ranges of creatures that are a danger to you.

The big sign that said "Are you sure you want to destroy <item x>" wasnt a hint then?

All the newbie quests mention where the questgiver is in the text (ie "bring 10 wolf skins back to Eredor in Dolanaar"). You have to learn to read the text and read the name of the areas in your current locale.

It sounds like all your problems could be solved by simply paying more attention , sorry if that sounds callous.

not at all. its a good point. What happened with the weapon thing was that the prompt popped up that i "assumed" said "Are you sure you wish to drop this item" and hit ok fairly quickly. all my own fault. However it would be nice to drop an item an come back to it like most other RPGs i've played.
I hope you've managed to find a quest that gives some weapon you can use, and you can complete.

luckily that's exactly what happened :)
Whenever you want. /1 and /3 to use the chat channels.

ah that's a help. I saw people saying stuff and i wanted to respond without the shout option. Is the chat resticted to the locale/area i'm in?

so i don't just rez back at the point where my corpse is but maybe a bit away?

thanks for the help. i've only been playing since last night so i'll be putting a bit more time in. I guess i'm just disappointed with the fed-ex feel to the game so far.

Actually another question. I'm a Hunter Night-elf. I managed to get a bow so usually i can hit monsters with a few arrows before they get near. Then its melee where unfortunately i'm still without a weapon. Is the Hunter able to specialise to be as proficient with a melee weapon as with the bow or am i better of concentrating with the range weapons?
Ideally i'd like to kill them with a few arrows and a few stabs (as opposed to the 9 or 10 punches unarmed its taking at the moment).

Unfortunately a hunter is totally naff at melee combat. Thats what his pet is for. Sic the pet on target and you shoot from a distance. You'll get your pet in the pet taming quest at level 10. After that you'll find things so much easier. When you hit level 20, you'll get Aspect of the Cheetah spell which increases your run speed by 30%. Makes getting around so much easier.

When you do get your pet take time to understand the pet commands such as summon, revive, dismiss and feed. All these are in the Spellbook. Do not click Abandon unless you really want to get rid of your pet permanently. Feeding is very important. An unfed pet is an unhappy pet and will turn against you. Pet training is important as you can teach your pet new abilities.

http://www.goodintentionsguild.info/hunters.html is invaluable source of pet info for hunters.

and this guide will help you through lvls 1 -20, http://wow.stratics.com/content/features/guides/hunter2/

none of the classes get much of their goodies before at least lvl 10, so hang on till then anyway. I'd say when you get your pet and a few good groups for quests things will be a lot more fun.

Oh, and what server are you on? There maybe a boards.ie friendly guild on it

Quarryman, im a night elf hunter and had the same problem at first. If you can find my first post on this board youll see almost a carbon copy of your own.
At first it really does seem like a really crap singleplayer game, just with added people running around. The early missions are quite dull, dont let it put you off.
Once you get to lvl 10 and get a pet, it all picks up. also, this might sound stupid, but try talking to people. At first everyone just ran past me, paying no attention, but id seek out people around my own level, talk to em, do some quests, add a few friends to your friends list, then you can meet up and quest together. Once youre ready to leave darnassus and go o auberdine, i all really takes off. Stick with it, is well worh it.
Also id have to recommend not playing on a pvp server tbh (i know most ppl here will disagree), but i find the pve alot better, you only fight when you want to, instead of getting ganked by higher lvls and just having to take it.

just saw this post now. actually read yours too. and you're 100% right too. its very much picked up. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 931 ✭✭✭moridin

One thing that annoyed me about playing NE, is that most of the quests in auberdine dry up around lvl 16 or 17, and the ones in Ashenvale and the Wetlands are for characters around level 21. Once the quests start to become scarce, I'd recommend walking through the wetlands as far as Ironforge, hopping on the tram to stormwind, and questing in Redridge Mountains.

Oh and go do the quests in Westfall too, cos you'll probably want the Van Cleef deadmines mission, as it's quite fun :)

yeah, i found that out the hard way moridin. After id finished most ashenvale quests i was kinda at a loss. Stonetalon mountains has a few good ones but they can be quite tough if youre nnot above lvl 25, i just had to slog it out doing quests that were too tough for me lol
