Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The elusive 18:51 DART Connolly to Howth

Does anyone have any idea why the 18:51 DART to Howth from Bray (or Greystones?) via Connolly sometimes just doesn't make an appearance. When I say 18:51, I mean from Connolly. I often get this train but there have been numerous times where it simply hasn't turned up. What makes it worse is that shows of the board that it's on its way. Today for example, I just missed the 18:29 to Howth as I got to the platform at 18:30 just as it left. No problem with that. I was late. My fault. The board said Malahide in 17 mins, Howth 23 mins and Longford 26 mins or thereabouts. By 18:35, this had changed to Malahide 12 mins, Longford 21 mins and that was it. Where the hell did the Howth train go. Did it disappear AGAIN? This has happened several times. Also, DARTs to Howth are at the weirdest of times after 6pm. There's one @ 18:09, 18:29 and 18:51. That's 3 darts to Howth for the 18:00 hour. However, after 19:00, it goes a bit funny. 19:04, 19:08, 19:16. WTF is the story with that? Do Irish Rail not know when rush hour is or something? If I miss the 18:29 dart, it's often over 10 mins before another train of any kind comes along so please don't tell me it's a capacity issue. Why are their 3 trains in the space of 12 mins after 19:00 when most people are already home and only 3 trains in 42 mins when people would like a frequent service. I can't understand the logic at all

Its probably just the usual business of the DART sharing the same rail line as the Inter-City trains to Belfast, the cement trains to Drogheda, the Diesel trains to Balbriggan etc. The line has to be kept clear to allow these noisy monsters have priority and urban commuters just have to wait. Its the same in the morning into-town service in the North suburbs: twenty minutes wait for a DART between 7.30 and 9am morning rush-hour is common. There will never be a decent DART service until there is a dedicated rail line ( preferably underground ) for commuter electric trains.
