Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Should be fairly interesting to see how this turns out.

New rules are that there is just one single flying lap each on Saturday.

I'm not sure whether it's going to be run in reverse order of the current standings or not...

If it is, it would be more dramatic with the best racers last and making it tense; but that would mean the best drivers with the best cars will have a massive advantage in that there will be so much more rubber laid down for them.

If it isn't, it wouldn't be as dramatic, most of the drivers ye care about would be out and back within the first half, meaning people would probably switch off after the first half(lowering the advertising value of the TV programmes). But it would even up the field to an extent by giving the advantage of more rubber on the track to the weaker teams who'd need it more.

I'd prefer the latter situ, but would understand if they went with the first one. Still anything's gotta be better than it has been for the first few races this season:D

So basically it's gone back to the way it was last season?

I AGREE....... bring back the 12 lap run. the new system should be interesting seen as Kimi will be the last person on track and we'll have to wait till the very end to find out who will secure poll.

No, last season was a two lap quali.

The first lap was in reverse order according to the current WC standings, the second was in order of the lap times from the first lap.

Then the fastest lap from the second round was your quali time.

    @Dcully: I agree!

Bringing back the 12 lap qually would be excellent, but I'm afraid for the typical viewer it would be boring. I remember the Canadian race in '97 where it was 30 minutes into qualifying and there was still one car to come out onto track. The crowd was boo'ing ffs and Martin and Murry were struggling to come up with things to say! Personally I loved seeing the strategy of it, teams stalking each other, who dare to go out first.. will it start raining, when is it the best time to go out, is it still to wet etc etc

12 lap quali had me glued to the tv for its duration when it used to be on. Now I dont even bother watching qualifying, no sense of excitement, at all.

I used to prefer the old 12 lap qualifying sessons as well...... except for those times when nothing would happen on track for half an hour or more. There is a solution to that, though. How does this sound:

Bring back the old-style 12 lap, 4 sets of tyres, low-fuel qualifying session. But, all cars must go out and make at least one run within the first 30 minutes, otherwise they get penalised in some way like being put back 10 places on the grid or something. How does that sound? A pretty simple solution, I reckon, and we wouldn't have any of those long waits to see some track action.

Yep I agree with that. Or maybe each car could only set one flying lap every 15 minutes. That way there'd be little or no quiet patches.

YEAH BRING BACK THE 12 LAPPER QUALIFYING

Theres no excitment any more.....remember the way it used to be....car crossing the line with 2 seconds to go in the session....DO or die lap....total excitment.....Schumacher and Senna style!

LOL......yeah that was something else.....murray was like eerrr mmmm eerrr
But remember the end of that session......1 min to go and nobody was guarnteed to be in the top 10......positions changing every 3 seconds! Was great!

Got there 2 seconds before me!
Was goin to say the exact same thing!
You have people crossing the line with a second or two remainin in the first quarter!

10 places might be a bit harsh........5 perhaps!

But does the 1 lap every 15mins ruin the possibily of rain scrambling the gird.....used to be so funny seeing the Minards in the top 5 with the Ferraris beating their times on intermediate tyres!

But yeah deffo.....the 1 last every quarter of the session would make it far more interesting than the 1 lap!!

Hakkinen was the master of timing it perfect.
    Real excitement.
