Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shelboure Rovers trilogy a New Hope...
Fingal CC vote in favour of Shels stadium
    Thursday, 26 May 2005 4:53

Shelbourne boss Pat Fenlon could soon be barking instructions from a new home stadium

Shelbourne's plan to move from Tolka Park to a new stadium near Swords received a massive boost last night when Fingal County Council voted in favour of designating land for the project.

A statement from the club, released today, reads: "Shelbourne Football Club is delighted to hear that Fingal County Council voted last night to confirm the designation of land in the Swords/ onabate area for development of a new stadium for the club."

The current eircom League champions have noted locals' concerns about the proposed move to Fingal, but have said they will work with residents to smooth out any problems the new stadium may create.

"The Management Committee of Shelbourne is acutely aware that a small number of residents in the vicinity of the site for the proposed stadium, have reservations about the suitability of the land for this development.

"It will be a priority for Shelbourne FC over the next few months to work with Fingal County Council to allay these fears and reservations."

Last night's vote clears the way for Shels to begin work on pre-planning activities, such as having an Environmental Impact Study undertaken.

    Is there a god? check
Does he do mean things to football fans? check

I thought we wouldnt get the green light. Looks like things are really moving. I think the local community will get behind the club once they realise the facilites the kids are getting.

Hopefully this is where we will see top european sides playing in the coming years :)

(build it and they will come :p)

    Council decision boosts Shels' hopes

SHELBOURNE'S plans for a new stadium have cleared a major hurdle following the decision of Fingal County Council to rezone land at Lissenhall outside Swords, writes Gerry McDermott.

It means Shels can now start preparing their plans and the club hope to be in a position to apply for planning permission by the end of the year. The €11million complex will include a 7,800 seater stadium and the project will be financed through the sale of Tolka Park.

Is there still some issues about the sale of Tolka Park....?

This could be amazing for Shels and pretty detrimental for any of their rivals in the EL.

While Im not a huge follower of the EL (although I do get to plenty of LSL games) if Shels moved to the new site Id definately start going to some as it is quite close to me. But a move to that site could multiply their fanbase exponentially. Swords is a huge community, and the numbers are growing and growing. Lots of young families buying houses there, which would lead to young kids and families going to see EL games. Crowds bring money and brings (even more success) for Shels.

How are the current fans taking the move? With apprehension or enthusiasm?

    Shelbourne set to move

Soccer/National League News: Shelbourne hope to submit an application for planning permission for their proposed stadium in Swords before the end of the year the club's chief executive Ollie Byrne said yesterday after it was confirmed that Fingal County Council has designated the land earmarked for the development for use as a sports and recreational venue.

The club will now embark on a series of meetings with local residents aimed at winning support for the proposed move before planning permission is sought but the aim is to move on to the next stage of the process by Christmas with a view to relocating from Tolka Park within roughly three years.

"We're delighted that the councillors voted for the move to allow the move to go ahead on Wednesday night," said Byrne yesterday, "and so the next stage now is to meet with the council and the residents while also looking at the actual design of the stadium.

"A lot of what we want to do has been worked out but there are some details still to be ironed out and we will have to see what happens between now and the end of the planning process but the hope is that that would take about a year to 18 months after which, if everything goes well, we could be on site quite quickly."

The club has secured a 30-acre site in the area which Byrne describes as "one of the fastest growing towns in Europe".

The new venue would include the stadium itself along with various ancillary facilities and around half a dozen training pitches including some with all-weather surfaces. The cost of the project has yet to be finalised but it is estimated to run at approaching €20 million, a portion of which would be raised by the club selling its stake in its current home at Drumcondra.

"The fact of the matter is that there are various problems with Tolka Park as a long-term home," he says. "We are limited in what we can do with the ground, we can't really bring it up to the standard that we would like for Europe and it's expensive to maintain or to do anything with.

"The new ground is in a residential area that's growing fast and has huge long-term potential. Fingal County Council have made it clear that they want us out there and we're delighted with the way they've supported the move."

its a proper site.. loads of space if they ever build a real big stadium :)
