I don't read sanskrit but I'm sure there's a wealth of information written in it.
    Text speak isn't a language.

Ah come on now... go easy on the poor nooblings.
Have you ever sat your grandma infront of a keyboard and watched her take a whole minute to find the S key?
It'd take hours to get a whole sentence out... nevermind something approaching a point.
I'd easily forgive someone new to typing, I think we forget sometimes how we ourselves started off single-finger typing.
There again, some people just do it out of laziness... which is really irritating.
I have to spend an extra few seconds reading the post because the poster was too lazy to type it properly... slowly they steal our lives 2 seconds at a time.
    Right, that's it - I'm flip-flopping... ban them all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,659 ✭✭✭Shabadu

How did you manage to get your granny at a computer?

    I didn't say I had.
I was asking if anyone else had. o_O

I think that if someone wants to type in text speak they should be allowed, i personally dont do it but it doesnt bother me, if you dont like it dont look at it no one is forcing you to.

That's the third time you've posted that The General.

Wow, the repitition is really making me come over to your point of view. As opposed to annoying the living crap out of me.

nice catch, are you gay gordo ?, or a small case of mistaken identity

Why not just add the most used "txt spk" words to the censor?

So 'txt spk' would display as '*** ***' in any post. It still identifies the poster as a muppet and should help discourage people from using it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,658 ✭✭✭✭The Sweeper

I think it would take me longer to post something in text speak than just typing it out.

    Then again, I'm literate.

Whenever I see a txt spk post, I assume the poster is about 15, barely literate, close-minded, pretty stupid and probably not worth reading.

    *shrugs*

I think it depends on the board tbh. On some boards I don't think txt speak is appropiate (take a science board for instance or politics), and should be hit win at least a warning, then a ban etc. On other boards? Yeah it annoys me, but what's the big deal? Just ignore the illiterate ramblings of bored teenagers, it's not worth deciphering really.

(Hadn't seen this thread before now)

AH charter has been updated as follows:

    - Using txtspk n ur psts is cnsdrd been rlly stpd cuz u hv qwert kbd n ur pc so xpct 2 b bnd immditly. Dis iz ur only wrng.

One user has received a 2 week ban as a result of ignoring multiple public and private warnings.
