Les Georges Leningrad are Montreal’s most notorious post-punks and are much beloved for their over the top stage shows and unique take on various genres including no wave, punk and electro sounds.

They have just released Sur les traces de Black Eskimo LP on Alien8 records ( also home to set fire to flames, Shalabi Effect, The Unicorns, Merzbow, Keiji Haino, Aube) // Tomlab in Europe (The Books, Patrick Wolf, Xiu Xiu) and just recently a limited seven inch on Rough Trades seven inch label For Us. A song from their first album was also featured on Rough Trade's Post Punk compilation. Upcoming remix 12" on Troubleman Records featuring remixes by Magas, Akufen and Ghislain Poirier...

Their music seems to take cues from British post punk and early 80s New York No Wave with a heavy dub influences, a darkly ironic sense of humour, spiked with constant DADA references. Arty, angular and abrasive they play like primitive people, singing in English, French, German and invented languages. "A big laugh at the everyday apocalypse" as they say...

The resulting sound is so diverse and unique it throws up many convoluted attempts at describing their sound, such as…

    "Music for the maniacs"
"Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde's movie soundtrack"
"Cannibal corpse when they were babies."
"A dissonant disco act that fuel freaky dance parties in the early '80s"
"A mangled mass of Pere Ubuism, shuddering electronic clangor, lean post punk guitars and surreal lyrical non-sequiturs."
"If Cabaret Voltaire, the Residents and Lene Lovich had formed a super group in 1982, died in a car crash and kept going anyway,"
"Sonic Youth meets Suicide at a kindergarten Christmas pageant."
"Les Georges might remind you of the Slits or Kleenex, but it's so anachronistic that it might be a nightmare of our future, a polygot zombie set loose on North America"
"If Lydia Lunch and Niña Hagen were one person, she would be Poney P, the mystery shrouded singer of Les Georges."
"If PIL's Metal Box and Devo's early records were pressed into one piece of hot as ****, dance party vinyl, this would be it"

Les Georges Leningrad have toured and performed with Erase Errata, The Gossip, Le Tigre, The Locust, Magas, Sonic Youth, Trans Am and the Unicorns.
