Tried to get added on to mams insurance last year but not a hope just wasnt possible. Reason: ???????
    Now this year.....
Their renewal is this month so she rang the insurance company and Guess what... I would bring their insurance from 450 to 1200ish to get me added. Thats with axa i think.
Told my ma to ring around, fbd was a little more but axa could do better
950ish for me and both my parents, even without me it was cheaper for them.
So i could be on the road by the end of the month and cant wait.
22 male and have full licence last 2 years btw.
/me wonders could he maybe get a car himself in the near future.

And why is there only 2 smileys???? :D and ;)

err, 22yr old with a full licence and you can only get insured on your ma's car? that's not great, although it is cheaper than you're own policy.

I got some on-line quotes for my ma's car and they came in around 2+k.
It's not even my own car, i wont have full use of it so didnt see the point getting insured on it (and its a mazda demio)
I'm not prepared to shell out a couple grand just so i can drive a little 1L of my own (ma's car is only 1.3L). Anyway i dont see the point and its a great waste of money imo insurance companies should cop them selves on.
Tried last year to be added on to their policie but it just wasnt possible.
They had some stuppid excuses i cant remember.
It's only going to cost me 50 euro a month for the insurance and im happy enough with that. A lot more reasonable than paying over 2k a year anyway.

I learn to drive when I was about 18 had insurance till I was about 20. but when I went travelling and to college and when I came back I didn't need a car so I didn't drive again till I was about 25. I didn't really miss not having a car, till the bus was taking too long to get to work, (1.5-2hrs commuting across Dublin). Then I had to get one. My commute dropped to 35mins. Its back to 1hr now.

Hindsight is always great, I was driving company cars/vehicles mainly. Got quoted 1600 for a 1.4 escort (full license, 27 years old at the time) when I looked for insurance in my own name for the first time.

Had I known how nasty it would be (ok, younger drivers are really being screwed compared to me), I would have found the cheapest thing possible to insure, kept it in a field and insured it third party just to build up a no claims bonus.

Insurance companies don't like anybody, I've found!

Surely that would have cost you more long-term?, say the last 5 years insured and even if it was 1/2 of the price you payed on the escort it still would have cost you 800x5 just to have the car sitting in a field
