    Hi

Last week I purchased a domain name and a hosting package online.

I paid by credit card and have subsequently been billed.

A week has gone by and the domain is still available to buy?

I haven't heard anything about the hosting either!

A mate of mine just bought a domain an hour ago and its not available to buy now!

Am I being taken for a ride????

How long should it take ???

    Cheers

    JK

If it's a .com/net/org you're being taken for a ride. Even .ie's should only take a day or two depending on timing. You should expect it to take 1 day (but say 2 to allow for timing).. either way you should have been contacted by the company within a day or 2 at the most. Most big hosters set up your hosting within minutes (and the domain registration is put through within minutes too; it just takes a while to make it's way through the process).

Does the company you dealt with respond to emails or answer the phone?

    (...further to blacknight's post...)
If there was no reply from support after a week, I would register the domain elsewhere (e.g. godaddy.com) then sort out hosting and then contact your credit card company and get them to force a refund from the original 'registrar/host'
By the way who are they?

I got responses such as I'll have accounts ook into this...

    Don't have a phone number.

The company is www.fastprovider.ie, it was recommended to me by a friend

    FYI

Everything is sorted now, there was a mixup with the payment.

Their customer service is very good, when you get through.

    "when you get through"?
    How long were you trying?
How long was it between when you first notified them of the issue till it sorted?

    Hello Jim

Due to our our new ordering system being setup up for automated signups incorrectly a dozen orders ended up in the wrong part of the system.

I am just back from holidays myself although our staff should have dealt with your query right away. This is OUR fault and I apoligse, and we hope you will allow us to offer you a few extras free of charge for the delay in getting your account setup.

I will drop you a mail myself.

I will sort this processing matter right away if its not already resolved.
