Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

German computer magazine C'T claims that by changing only 2 bytes from the file setupreg.hiv in Windows's XP Home kit, users can get access to certain functions only avalaible in Windows XP Professional, such as Remote Desktop, User management and enhanced security features.
I'd say that Microsoft will change the setup files soon to prevent this hack, tho.

Wait a sec, I've got Remote Desktop anyway, and I'm not running Xp Pro. Come to think of it, I've got User Management too

I'd say not - the same exploit existed in NT4 a decade ago so they can't claim they didn't know and can't claim to have put it though a proper design review, unless they you believe in that they deliberatley make products hackable to gain market share (cf. China)
In NT4 you could upgrade workstation to server- this was patched in a Service Pack after it became public knowledge. There is another Hack to allow XP PRO to have server features too, not sure if you can do both in sequence to Home.

    Security Board post.
