What has become of us? The little bit of green grass beside City Hall on Dame Street (& in front of Dublin Castle) is being developed upon. They are building offices there!!!

Not only are they taking away every last patch of nature but the new building will obviously be out of kilter with the architecture of City Hall and the other older buildings on Dame Street. What next? A nuclear power station in Stephens Green?

AFAIK, that's been a 'temporary' park for just about ever! It was complained about when it was opened, because if you actually look you'll see the wall behind it is not a proper external wall and there was always supposed to be a building where that park is.

As for taking away nature, have you ever seen Dublin from the air? It looks more like a giant park than a city! If you need some green why not walk 1 minute from that building site to the park in Dublin Castle? Or up to Christchurch?

What's the new building going to be like? I haven't seen the plans or a model. Are you sure it will be 'out of kilter'?

Sure the greater Dublin Area from the sky looks like a park when you take account of the Phoenix Park being one of the largest in Europe. But within the 'City Limits' there are few public green spaces. Also 'parks' are not open all the time and are restricted to time constraints.

Who decided that it was a temporary open space/park? Planners? Councillers? Another case of one hand washing the other. Still haven't learned from the Wood Quay days!

As for Christchurch 'Park' - it is never open.

Go to any other Capital City and no matter how industrialised they are or how cramped they are for space, they always manage to have public open spaces, flower beds available for its citizens and visitors alike, not selling out for a quick buck.

That particular piece of land was an eye-sore before to be honest... some crappy seats and a statute... big deal..

You couldn't even go near the place anyway for all the drunks, bums and junkies... it was their hang out and i was delighted when i heard about this. It will give dame st a nice fresh new look.....

Whats the big deal about parks closing at night? Do you particularly want to walk through st.stephens green at midnight for any particular reason?
