    Second round draw
Kilkenny City v Finn Harps (Home Win)
    Drogheda United v Limerick (Home)
Shamrock Rovers v Fanad United ("Home")
Waterford United v St Patrick’s Athletic (Draw)
    Monaghan United v Dundalk (Away)
Carew Park or St Peter’s v Douglas Hall (Dont know)
Sligo Rovers v Malahide United (Home)
Galway United v Cork City (away)
Kildare County v Galway Hibs (Home)
Avondale United v Bray Wanderers (Draw)
Shelbourne v Derry City (Draw. I hope)
    UCD v Dublin City (Draw)
Longford Town v Waterford Crystal (home)
Cobh Ramblers v Wayside Celtic (home)
Lissadel United v Cherry Orchard (dont know)
    Bohemians v Athlone Town (Bohs)

Will we see any shocks in this round?

I think Athlone could give Bohs a scare, as could Avondale Utd on Bray. Avondale have alot of former eL players with them and are managed by John Caulfield. Should be a good game in Turners X tomorrow night.

Im hoping Shels and Derry draw in what should be a good game. Two good teams, who can play a bit as well as being quite physical. I think it will be a draw too.

I wonder will "Cup Specialists" fail to live up to their tag again this season?

Cork City should negotiate this round for the first time since pre - Dolan. Galway are awful this season, and Citys away record is highly impressive, with only no loss, 5 wins and one draw.

I think we'll be alright considering the form we're currently in. That is we'll be alright as long as we don't end up playing our reserve side. Intertoto starts a week later so the temptation is there.

my team Galway Utd are s*it at the moment and i doubt we can shocked Cork City at terryland park.

gimmick, thanks for the optimism for Shels getting the draw. I think we'll struggle against this Derry City side. The league table doesn't lie after all, and the fact is that we are third. We haven't got it together at all this season for any sustained length of time. Sure, we have loked good at times in games, especially against Pat's, but that was all.

I'm predicting a loss on friday night.

    A draw for pats ?

If we get a draw i be delighted havent won away this season cant see that changing, they have lost last 2 games at home 3-0 so due a result.

2-2 if we play anyway decent 2-0 would be my preditiction to waterford.

ohh to win a cup in my lifetime......

Well after the last game, they should be expected to do alright tomorrow! :D

Shels & Derry, well, where to start, I haven't a clue who'll come out on top in this. Judging by recent form I'd be inclined to say Derry (:(), but ya never know! Actually, wonder who the bookie's have as fav's!

As much as I hate to say it, 10-3 on Derry is amazing, you'd be stupid not to make it! It'll either be a draw or a Derry win :(

There has been amazing value betting against Shels recently

Bohs were 9/4 at home altough Shels havent beaten us in quite a while
3 days later Cork were 11/4 and now Derry are a great price

We should hammer Athlone, talk of their team in dissaray players fighting etc

Current? He got let go by Liverpool. :) The reports are that he was homesick but a I also read (and Bannor was one of the that said it) that he was let go because he was acting up all the time. The homesickness one would make sense as apparantly Liverpool did something so he couldn't sign for someone in Britain immediately after leaving them (Millwall did something similar to Sadlier when he had to retire). He was training with Ipswich and was offered trials at Villa and Celtic but don't think he even took them. Thats probably why he's at Bohs but I could be wrong. They can count themselves lucky anyway. :)

poor performance from city against galway last night, although galway to their credit worked extremely hard and I feel if the had won it would have been fair.

they had a perfectly legal goal disallowed for god knows what near the end, micheal devine pulled down a striker in the box, someon else tapped in, the referee blew, we thought PENALTY!!

however, rather amazingly, the ref blew for a free out.

replay now monday night, hoepfully city will have learned their lesson.

Shels were so bad last night, really bad.

Didn't look anything like a team that will be in the Champions League in a few weeks. Didn't look like a team that will be challenging for any honours come October and November.

Something is very wrong with the players. They don't look up for it.

I don't know how Pat Fenlon is going to change any of that though.

Well City squeezed past Galway last night with a fairly harsh penalty. To be fair, it could have been a rout apart from some excellent goalkeeping, wasteful finishing and some good defending.

Rico has now achieved more than Dolan twice - he has beaten Shels and progressed in the cup :) !

    Poor crowd of 2500.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Fair play.

2,500 isn't bad for a Monday night in the Cup.

Suppose, it's not up to the usual four and a half million ye usually attract to Da Cross. :p

It was closer to 4000. I think Gimmick is trying to short change Galway's cut of the gate ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Im not sure what the official attendence was, but it certainly wasnt more than 2500.

I know the people who were counting the cash etc. There were 3 Galway officials there, as well as an FAI Rep, so they certainly werent short changed.

Of course, just like City were last season.

At the rate ye are going, ye are going to need an heroic 13 game unbeaten run toward the end of the season, like City last season, if ye want to catch up :p

Well Malahide got put out of the cup tonight by Sligo after extra time, 0-2.

The match was going nowhere really until about ten minutes into extra time, when a mix-up between keeper and full back saw the keeper completely miss a clearance and let a forward in for an open goal.

A win for Sligo was probably fair, although Malahide did create the best chances (even if few and far between). Sligo had more pressure and territory, and rarely looked under sustained threat.

With ten minutes to go in normal time the Sligo keeper pushed a dipping 30 yard volley (no joke!) onto the bar from Malahides lone striker, who also missed another great chance in the last few minutes. Could have won the match for us, but in fairness to him played great.

Personally I think Malahide showed them too much respect. There really wasnt too much of a difference in standard, which I wouldnt expect between top LSL division and EL1.

Damn right, I was speaking to Sean Flannery (sligo player) this morning and he said Malahide was one of the most dogged sides they had played in ages and that shot near the end could have won it for them if it wasn't for a fantastic save by the keeper. Reckoned Rovers were lucky to get away with it, but you need some luck and by God Rovers are due some this year!

To be honest I think Malahide showed Sligo too much respect. They played a 4-5-1 with the front man very detatched from the midfield and resorted to pumping long balls to him. I dont think Malahide can have any complaints despite missing a couple of chances.

Sligo were very strong down the right side, although the right full was a bit of a moaner, always trying to get the ref to book players after fouls, a good player though, and the right winger was excellent.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,163 ✭✭✭Slash/ED

Sligos right full was MOTM imo, good player. Malahide gave the ball away too much and it cost them espically in defence when they had a lot of space they weren't holding on to it long enough, but they could well have nicked it and should have, the volley wasn't what you'd call a chance but they had two chances apart from that right at the end of normal time.

Yeah they were just launching it to the front man, who is hardly what you would call the traditional "targetman", about 5'9'' and 11 stone or so.

To be honest it was a pretty poor game of football with both sides using the punt quite a bit. A bit disappointing because thats how it went on Saturday, I would have thought that at home Malahide might have been a bit more adventurous.

The chance he missed at the end, sending it high and wide after a cut back was definitely a bad miss. You could tell from his reaction.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,163 ✭✭✭Slash/ED

Yeah they were just launching it to the front man, who is hardly what you would call the traditional "targetman", about 5'9'' and 11 stone or so.

That was the problem, and even when he did get on the end of the passing he wasn't getting mid fielders supporting him quick enough so couldn't hold on to the ball.

It definitely wasn't a great game of ball but non league v divison one was never going to be, it was fairly exciting though in a typical cup game way, espically the frantic last few minutes of normal time when Malahide could have won it, from the cut back and another time when the striker had a man square for a tap in into an empty net and instead picked the wrong option and pulled it back to a man outside the box and the chance was gone, also the great effort off the bar.

Looked to be a fair few people there too, at tenner a head Malahide would have done quite well out of the night.
