My switch from UTV to BT.........not going well.....

Contacted BT ages ago & requested a "transfer form" (DTSF or whatever it's called). I received an e-mail almost immediately with a .lnk attached

OK, screw this I thought, I'll just wait till UTV disconnect me & then order from BT. I'll accept 7/10 days of downtime.

UTV disconnected me 1st June. Phoned BT that day, placed order. Told them I was awaiting the €ircon cancellation number & would phone them again as soon as I had it. Got the cancellation number from UTV on the 2nd & phoned BT on 3rd.

No record of my application from the 1st on their system, as if I never placed any order on the 1st. Had to basically reapply again  .

So I phoned up again today for an update.

"We submitted your order as a new DSL connection but €ircon refused it & sent it back to us. We requeued it again 3 or 4 days ago & it was resubmitted again yesterday. We're expecting a "going live" date from €ircon tomorrow"

So my application made on June 1st was actually (correctly) submitted to €ircon on June 8th. A weeks delay..........solely due to BT incompetence.

"You should be up & running in the next 2 weeks".

So that's the current state of play.

    Talk about infuriating

& here's me hoping I'd be back within 10 days. How long do ye reckon it'll finally take? 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 4 months?? :D

I reckon it won't be all plain sailing from here either..........I'm expecting more BT cock-ups along the way

steer well away from bt. you dont even get to hear a callperson on their customer service they insist on calling you back which the last time I called was 6 hours later. and also they do tend to mess up the direct debits then send you a letter later sayin your account is overdue . I will be switching to smart as soon as they go live in my area.

Kramer i had similar problems with Esat BT before,id stay well away althgough they seem to be better than IBB  given the chance happily go back to UTV

Wouldn't go back to UTV even if they were the only broadband provider. Smart isn't available & won't be on my exchange until next year I reckon.

So that just leaves €ircon

It's a sad state of affairs in this day & age to be stuck between a rock & a hard place :(

Is a reliable DSL subscription/service/provider to much to ask for???

    :)

I'm in much the same boat. Line fails test, NTL service dire. Only option for me would be IBB.

It's always been optional for me. If you hang up, you go into callback mode; if you stay on the line, you stay in the queue.

What annoys me more about BT's IVR system is the neverending announcement at the start. It's like ringing a porn line or something.

Phoned again today, 10 days since ordering.

"we hear from €ircon on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Nothing yesterday so call back next Wednesday (15th) & we'll hopefully have a target live date then".

    W@nkers

i swapped over from eircom to BT mainly for the broadband and line offer, now hears where the story starts, according to a bt letter i got 4 weeks ago there in disscusions with eircom to transfere my number and account info over to them, but my phone services are still on eircom even the voice mail, so i assume bt are slow in transfering me, but this is the confusing bit, according to eircom, im not a customer of theirs anymore (even though my main phone services are with them), so i ring bt to tell them the story with eircom, mainly because this came all around when my number went ex directory, BT say that im only a BB customer not a phone service customer, and that theres nothing on there system of a phone service order, Right so even though by BB is working grand and that i can make calls and receive them, i rang the eircom check bill service and long and behold my accound number is not registered on there system, so my question is who am i getting billed by for calls, eircom says im not a customer of theres as of 22nd of may and bt dont have any phone account details of me( is this why my number went ex directory)
I hav'nt a clue what to do, but im going to wait and see who i get a bill from in the coming weeks.
So as far as im concerned BT took over my phone service but according to them im not a phone service customer of theirs.

It's all a question of which pack of muppets you prefer. I'll be going with the cheaper muppets (BT) once my UTV contract runs out next month. Although I'm expecting them to give some bs about being tied down to a new contract because my line rental was only transferred a fews weeks ago....

Are they much cheaper than everyone else?

Not much cheaper. My only options are BT, UTV and Eircom. Well Eircom's not really an option as far as I'm concerned so that leaves me with BT unfortunately :( They're €57 for the 2mb connection and line rental. UTV are €45 a month plus the line rental which I think is about €24 a month.

The suspense was killing me so I rang BT today for my "target live date", which, I'm told is...................................

    June 29th

She did go on to say that my application had been "escalated" with €ircon which should speed up the reconnection. Should be back on DSL by June 22nd.

This dial up is driving me mad :(

Dig out what you signed & look trough the small print for any breach of contract , lots of downtime or something to argue with them about..

BTW heard a good one today on newstalk about this guy who was on hold with UTV for about an hour. Started pressing buttons & accidently got into the menu to change thier on hold message to something more honest..."This is UTV we don't give a F**K about you etc etc" Appearantly it stayed on the system over an hour before being discovered.. Nice one!! Might give it a try next time I'm listening to that Eircom moran

i ordered bt bb plus (with line rental) online at the weekend (bt is already my call provider), but i didnt get any order info. i got a message saying that the order was being processed or something, but it dosnt appear in the orders list or the order tracking list. is this normal and it just takes a few days to get through or is ordering online a bad idea?

I used to work for an ISP and dealt with BT in the UK. BT could migrate a phone service within days over there and BB took hours, the order would go in say on a Monday. And allowing for the 7 day grace period ( legal thing with Ofcom where customer can change their mind)

BT would have the line switched over with only a couple of hours downtime. It was only a matter of supply company replacing the Dslam in the exchange with their own equipment.

Don't understand why this cannot be done here, as it is all done through a database order system online by the ISP.

According to their own website they have a "no obligation" three month free trial, and have done for a lot longer than 5 weeks, so unless you've already been through that you can tell them to shove it.

I'd check that out.. I got an email confirmation within a couple of hours & the order tracking showed in progress at that time..

Well, would you believe it, green light on router this morning!!! DSL now up & running.

Can't really fault €ircon on time taken to connect!!

If you've already been through the 4 months (or is it 3 months) trial period then they have you by the short and curlys. you could always just cancel the direct debit and see what happens, its very doubtful it'll go any further than a few letters threatening to get the debt collectors onto you. From what I can gather from other posts here you can't go to another ISP unless you have a cencellation code which would leave you buggered, but I don't know for a fact.
