Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Arsenal have also doubled their offer for the Beast

As Arsene said 'its in no mans land' at the moment

Still cannot see him leaving Spain unless Arsene has an English Bird lined up to marry him to get his EU Citizenship????

Yeah, they are going for a club record bid of around 17 million? I think that was the figure.
I saw an interesting interview with Sky Sports' La Liga reporter Guillem Balliga (can't spell his name) who said this business with his EU passport may just be an excuse, as he will actually be elligable for one in August. He also said that Sevilla are keen to sell him as his value will drop significantly next season as he'll be in the last year of his contract.

Real Madrid have agreed a €20 million (£13.8 million) fee, rising to €24.5 million for Sevilla striker Julio Baptista.

Sevilla confirmed they had accepted an offer for the Brazilian ace, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Baptista was interested in a move to the Premiership giants, but preferred to remain in Spain for the additional year required to secure an EU passport.

Sevilla could have been forced to accept a reduced offer for the 23-year-old's services next summer and have decided to cash in on their prized asset.

"The only logical decision was to sell him," club president Jose Maria del Nido told the club's official website.
"Julio's representatives made it clear the player wanted to leave and they explained the new Fifa regulations coming into force after July 1, 2006 that would affect the relations between clubs and players.

"So it was the obvious decision to let him go."

Baptista, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at El Santiago Bernabeu, will be unveiled by Real on Monday providing he passes a routine medical.

    No Baptista for Arsenal.
Can't see how Owen will maintain himself at Real now

Do you work for The Sun?

No, there has been some talk about it here and there.

Owen isnt going to play 4th fiddle on the bench. He would suit arsenal's style.

Now in fairness I would be very surprised if he did move to arsenal but not overly shocked if it happened.

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Owen went to Arsenal, especially after reading this

Arseblog today reports 'serious whispers' about Michael Owen, and he's usually on the ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭mr_angry

Well, Bannor usually has his ear to the ground on all things Spanish. Maybe he'll add his tuppence-worth later. To be honest, I'd rather see Arturo Lupoli (who scored in yesterday's 1-0 win over Ajax) to break into the team, and see Wenger spend more money on a new midfielder. Thats not to say Owen isn't a good player of course. We should buy him just to keep him away from United tbh!

Sebastian Viera saya he has signed a deal with Arsenal, bet Jens will be quaking in his boots now. Also Wenger says he has no interest in Michael Owen

Wenger said a new keeper will be signed by Friday. Just now on SSN:
The Arsenal chief is expected to add to his goalkeeping options in the near future, with Sebastian Viera set to join 'as long as the medical and financial reasons are sorted out'.
Hopefully this guy lives up the potential, assuming he signs.

Wenger has also said he's looking for a centre-midfielder who scores goals, which is interesting. Wengerball has always relied on two more defensive minded midfielders so this would be a departure for him. I think it could work though, Gilberto has the best engine in the premiership imo and could handle the extra workload, as could Flamini who is one of the hardest working players I've seen. Interesting days ahead.

Viera comes highly rated and at 22 already a full international and has plenty of time to improve.

With a new GK more or less sorted then hopefully a CM will be bought in the next week or two.
Id expect this new player to be bought and signed quietly (if he is bought at all) because of the baptista fiasco and because chelsea can always out bid them.

very true Jank - and thats why I expect United to unveil someone soon. Chelsea are determined not just to strengthen themsleves but weaken other clubs. I don't think they ever had any real need for Essien, but saw that United or Arsenal would need him.

    Brilliant typo from Skysports.com

Arsenal will start contract talks with captain Thierry Henry once the new season is underway.

Henry has two years remaining on his present deal at Highbury and the club are anxious to secure the striker's long-term injury.

Im sure most of the other clubs are praying its true!

On another note, it seems their new keeper Viera may have failed a medical leaving arsenal with no keepers for champions league start with almunia injured and lehman suspended! Just heard this on the radio, not seen on any reputable sites yet.

Eh, we have Vito Mannone and some English guy whose name escapes me.
    We'll be fine.

Yeah, reports have it that Viera has failed a medical. Oh well. Playing with nobody in goal is probably something Wenger works on in training. :p

if this was true why would they still be pursuing the player up until now, surely if they wanted to put him out of man united and arsenals price range they have already succeeded?

I'll wait for Arsenal to say something about the Viera medical story as it just seems to have come from the one source at the moment. There are a number of rumours as to what the reason was for the failure, ranging from cocaine in the guy's urine to him having a bad cold (and would hence be re-taking the medical next week).

Think we still need a keeper but who is out there ??

anyone see Howard in the pre-season friendlies ?

Also does anyone rate Jenas ? For 20m Souness can go and you know what

Maybe for 10 or less as we are short in Midfield and he can come out of his fishbowl

    lol, according to ANR:
According to our sources, when Uruguayan keeper Sebastian Viera turned up at Colney the coaching staff were dismayed to see that Viera is only slightly taller than Ashley Cole. The keeper did not fail a fitness test, so much as a size test.

    Songs Loan is confirmed
Arsenal take Song on season loan

Song can operate as a defender or a midfielder

Bastia defender Alexandre Song has joined Arsenal on a one-year loan deal.
The two clubs have also agreed a fee of £2.75m if Arsenal decide to sign him on a permanent basis next summer.

Song, who is the nephew of former Liverpool player Rigobert Song, made 34 appearances last season after signing his first professional deal.

The Cameroon-born 19-year-old did enough to impress manager Arsene Wenger during Arsenal's pre-season training camp in Austria.

Song, who can also play in midfield, had been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
