Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    What a sad story,

    ***

Liverpool Football Club are saddened to learn of the death of a
fanatical supporter from Ireland who tragically passed away in the
aftermath of the Reds' Champions League victory in Istanbul.
20 year old Patrick Robinson from Carlow is thought to have suffered
a massive heart attack in the seconds following Jerzy Dudek's
decisive penalty save from Andriy Shevchenko in the Ataturk Stadium.

Patrick was watching the game in a local pub and jumped for joy when
his beloved Reds completed their tremendous comeback to win the
    dramatic penalty shoot-out.

But, tragically, he died soon after, just weeks before his 21st
    birthday.

His uncle, Michael Owens, wrote to Liverpoolfc.tv and said: "Patrick
lived for Liverpool FC. He didn't get to see his favourite player
Steven Gerrard lift the European Cup because he was sadly no longer
of this world, but he saw the penalty shoot out and I know he died a
    happy and proud young man.

"Myself and my family would like to thank Steven Gerrard and everyone
connected with LFC in the past and present for giving Patrick so many
    great memories."

Patrick's mother Denise said: "He was a beautiful child. He was
really happy and he was so popular. He was very lively and he loved
    sport.

"He was fanatical about Liverpool and he has been since he was four
years of age. He never missed a kit and every year he bought the home
    and away kits."

Everybody at Liverpool Football Club would like to extend their
deepest sympathies to all the family and friends of Patrick at this
    extremely difficult time.

    Very sad indeed.

Shortly after my father died (of heart failure) I had a visit from a chap he knew after he learned the news we got talking and he revealed his father had died of a heart attack only a few months earlier after the famous 1989 Liverpool - Arsenal end of season title decider match.

During the CL final the ITV fella (Clive Tyldesley I think) mentioned that heart failure rates jump during and just after such matches...

Jesus, it makes you think. :(

If I have big money on a horse race I actually can't watch it as I get horrendous palpitations. I couldn't watch the end of the England-Ireland rugby match for the same reason. Suprisingly never have a problem during a football match though.

I'm going to be really cynical about this and ask is it a true story?

The reason I ask is, firstly I've tried to google the story and can't find anything, secondly I haven't heard anything on the news or read anything in the papers. And thirdly, have a look at the name of the guy's Uncle.

he was a friend of mine. he also played in goal for the soccer team i play with.

he was a fantastic goalkeeper. most goalies you see at junior socccer level are simply the unlucky one who got picked but this guy was class. he worked hard at his game.

    really nice guy too.

heres a pic of the team in the last game he played.

Well it was printed in the star, as much as they may write general nonsense I doubht they would have ran a story like that without validating it. It was in the paper on the friday edition after the match.

Apologies if I offended anybody it wasn't my intention. It's just that when I didn't see a link in the original post I thought that it might've been some sick joke. :o

It was in the Herald a day or two after the final. Hard to believe that a family should be turned from such joy to such grief in a matter of minutes. And because he was so young too. I'd have expected to see it being somebody in their 60's maybe.

We can only be thankful for his family's sake that he died happy and fulfilled and without prolonged pain. Not everybody has that privilege when they're called from above!

    May he rest in peace.
