i have an escort model.. excellent peice of kit.. but i did find that it spends most of its life in the glove compartment, simply as most of the roads i drive are B roads without any cops, and it is pretty much pointless trying to drive at any sort of pace on the N roads as you just catch up with the next slow driver faster

I bought a Beltronics 550 on EBay after a recent run in with an inept copper (See my other posts). Generally an excellent piece of kit, picks up all Gatsos from miles off. Not so good on the hand-held laser devices though.

How quick is it to hide this device? I find that my mobile gets interference when a hand - held device is around

Lucky me although don't know how long my luck will last

What is the story with the GPS device that gives you an accurate reading of your speed and also gives you the limit of the area you are in? Is it available in Ireland?

All GPS systems can give you an accurate reading of your speed. Very handy as the speedo accuracy varies wildly per car. The speed is also inaccurate if you don't use the same tyres / wheels that originally were specified for the car. My actual (GPS) speed at 120km/h displayed on my speedo, is about 118km/h :)

Most satnav software would include speed limits for whatever road you are on. Obviously you are dependent on the mapping software to have the speed limits adequately programmed in and not all software is up to date as in only some packages cover the whole of the Republic in detail

You could buy one from the UK I suppose, but they'd be bugger all use over here as the database of speed cameras doesn't exist. If you buy such a device in the UK, you can regularly download updated camera location databases from the manufacturers' websites.

That's not what MrPudding asked! But you're right about the UK camera locations. In relation to fixed cameras over here, there are only a few in the entire country and most people know where they are
