I don't have the time now to write and learn a completley new essay, and I definitely wouldn't be able to just pull something out of my head on the day. I'll just keep praying for Davitt and Inter-Party!

Take a look at The Oxford Companion to Irish History. There are articles in there about unionism, the Ulster Unionist Party, the Ulster Plantation, etc, by some of the best scholars on the subject. You'll get it in the library. Take a photocopy and go through it with your trusty highlighter.

This will give you the information; then you can talk to your classmates and parents and teachers and so on, and develop your own ideas from this information.

Discuss that he saw none of his ideals achieved
Discuss his career as a nationalist, a Land Leaguer and a socialist.

Just follow your ordinary plan for Davitt.
When you talk about him being in the Fenians, working with John Devoy and wanting to link up with the HRP to work for independence just throw in a sentence at the end saying and here is clear evidence that he was certainly a nationalist .

Then the majority of your essay will be about his work with the Land League, again just write what you ordinarily would but keep throwing in lines like further proof of his work with the Land League came when...

Finally for the Socialist part, you need only mention that while Parnell hoped to achieve Peasant Ownership of the land, Davitt wanted the more radical and socialist Land Nationalisation. Had he ever lived on the land he would have known this was never going to be a realistic goal as the farmers didn't want it. In your conlcusion you could mention how after the Land League was closed down by Parnell/Kilmainham Treaty, Davitt spent the years 1882 - 1890 trying to work for Land Nationalisation of course, a socialist policy

Hope that helps, it really is the same question as most Davitt essays, just takes a tiny bit of tweaking but nothing to stop you doing the question. If anyone has a flick through past papers and sees a similar tricky question just post it in the history thread and I'll try help as will others. I'm repeating this year and know the hour before the history exam is the worst hour of your entire time in school, so will try and help!

id say my ulster unionism one is going to be fairly ****e, im hoping for isaac butt, doing mussolini, its an easy enough one
