at the risk of going back onto the original topic, for your first year don't go in with any preconceptions. Try not to stick to one group, get around, meet new people. Try not to stereotype people in the course, as socialising with people who "didn't seem my type" in CTYI was one of the best things I ever did. Don't take the classes too seriously, but don't slack so much it's obvious either.

most of all, have fun and make it your session, not an attempt to live by the experiences of others.

I'd have to agree there. Last year was my first year. I hadnt a clue what to expect from it as I didnt know anyone else that had gone to it (apparently we have a shortage of nerds in Cavan :eek: ). I ended up having a fantastic time, I made loads of new friends, both there, and through people I met there. The classes were fun, like nosmo said, I didnt take them too seriously, what with constantly being told to shut up(hey that's legal studies for ya, they dont like your opinions, they refuse to listen! nah, I lie. I just didnt shut up. ) and all.

Hope all the newbies have a fantastic time, and continue to do so for years. Who knows, maybe, if by some freak incident they let me be an RA in two years time, I may get to see some of you! (or I may see you this year either, session 2. Final year. )

Oh, as regards mad money-making scams, I think Aonghus and I were one of the very few ever to make a profit from one of them, so you have to be damn good, and why do all the Sportalians want gin?! I kept getting asked for it as well, and it's horrible!
