"Do those pitiful remnants of a bygone age"

An insulting statement to the memory of those who fought for Irish freedom.

Maybe I should have used the word "misguided" as Bob Dylan Fan did.

We cannot deny our history, as I write I can see on the wall opposite me , an old IRA medal and a decoration from King George V, both from my immediate family past.

i asked my dad where abouts they lived in the square, and he said that the building in the second photo, top right (has three stories) is the house that my great great grandfather lived in before they emigrated.they rented the top story. my listowel family went out in three blocks so to speak.. ill reply later to the PM you sent me sandhill(thanks for that) and write some more information about my family but for now i must do some college work and stop procrastinating!:)

You had to buy them ? I remember Miss Dowling used to allow myself and Tony Fealy read them at the end of the counter. When I was sick in bed she would send them in, with a caution of "no fingerprints , please".
She was probably saving them for resale to you or Colm McCoombe .
    Bless her heart.

Manys the hour I spent there, sitting on an upturned butterbox, inside the counter by the old stove. I got to read all the christmas annuals except "Bunty" as she knew Santa was bringing that one.Like yourself it was a case of "no fingerprints please". She had a heart of gold but woe betide you if you forgot your please or thank you.

If you can forgive my abominable ignorance, what trophy is being presented, by whom, & for what?. Is that Bernie Callaghan outfilled?.

I recognise Jackie Fitzgibbon ( RIP ) at back, and I think, that, over the player's right shoulder I can spy John ( of the Chemist Shop in Church St.) Keane ( also, most prematurely, RIP.)

    ..Note the black marker.
Frank Murray ( formerly of 7 Main Street) has a great story of the petrol pump and his father, Jimmy, RIP, during the World War II years, but I could not do it justice. Perhaps Frank can be persuaded to login and tell the story properly.
I expect to check out the Town for blemishes during Writers' Week upcoming.
