Would anyone be able to supply information on Vincent Carmody's book "North Kerry Camera", and any subsequent books he may have had published? I'm looking for the name of the publisher, if the books can be seen on line, or the names of any other books by Vincent, etc.
(Vincent, if you see this, congratulations on your retirement)

Vincent lives a few doors down from my Dad back home. Let me see what I can do. I do not have his email but I used to keep in contact with his son Kevin who did live in Chicago.

..I must conclude that the recent Iranian crisis ( now resolved, D.G.) drove up the price of petrol a major amount?.
Listowel, as always, proved itself resourceful.

I do have a copy ( a birthday present approx. 20 yrs. ago from my second brother), currently on loan to a younger brother, who is known both for his acquisitive nature and for his tardiness in returning stuff ( hint, hint, brathair mo croi!.)

I spoke to Vincent Summer of 2005 and I said that several people had remarked to me that they would like to possess a copy of that book, and Vincent told me that he was pursuing w/ the publisher, perhaps, a re-issue, or, even, a new edition.

Certainly, there would be no shortage of buyers for either.

( Please add my congratulations to Vincent on his recent retirement. Vincent & I were returning from the Holocaust Ceremony, at the conclusion of Writers' Week x 2005, in the Garden of Europe, hosted by the celebrated Paddy & Carmel Fitzgibbon, and as we walked through the Graveyard we visited our familys' graves & found that the Carmodys & Sheehys graves were adjacent to each other. Either Vince or I remarked that we were destined to lay an Eternity near each other. Not anytime soon, Vincent, neither of us!.)

The French Prime Minister was sitting in his office when his telephone rang.

"Hallo, Mr. Chirac!" a heavily accented voice said. "This is Danny Hannon down at Joe Broder's Bar in Listowel ,County Kerry, Ireland. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!"

"Well, Danny," Chirac replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?"

"Right now," said Danny, after a moment's calculation, "there's meself, John Lynch ( a wiz with the camera), me next door neighbour Billy Keane, and the entire darts team here at the pub. That makes eight!"

Chirac paused. "I must tell you, Danny, that I have one hundred thousand men in my army waiting to move on my command."

"You do and your bollocks , , pardon my French,!" said Danny. "I'll have to ring you back!"

Sure enough, the next day, Danny called again. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on. We have managed to get ourselves some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would that be, Danny?" Chirac asked.

"Well, we have two combines, an old thrasher, and Damian Stack's tractor."
We also got our new military uniforms from Joyce Henry's INFIDEL of The Small Square

Chirac sighed, amused. "I must tell you, Danny, that I have 6,000 tanks and 5,000 armored personnel carriers. Also, I've increased my army to one hundred fifty thousand since we last spoke."

"Yerra, go on!" said Danny. "I'll have to get back to you."

Sure enough, Danny rang again the next day. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on!" We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We've modified Cathal Fitzgerald's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and have been joined by Eoin McMahon, Cyril Kelly, Marty Sheehy, and Frank Murray

Chirac was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you, Danny, that I have 100 bombers and 200 fighter planes. My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I've increased my army to two hundred thousand!"

"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!", saidDanny, "I'll have to ring you back."

Sure enough, Danny called again the next day. "How's Mr. Chirac! I am sorry to tell you that we have had to call off the war."

"I'm sorry to hear that," said Chirac. "Why the sudden change of heart?"

"Well," said Danny, "we've all had a long chat over a bunch of pints, and decided there's no fecking way the twelve of us assisted by Nora Relihan , Margaret Dillon, Maura Fealy & Brenda Woulfe can feed two hundred thousand prisoners..

While I enjoy and log on here frequently......seems that there is only a few genuine people keeping this thread going.....to those I say thanks.....I love the pictures and the local parish news.
I myself am guilty of not posting or replying .......I will try to mend my ways.
    Anyway "slan"

Thank you so much for your kind words of appreciation. Sandhill is definitely the driving force behind this. Without him the thread would have collapsed long ago. We all owe him a big debt of gratitude. Like a lot of fora we have far more readers than writers, but then that's what it's all about. We will be looking forward to hearing more from Price of a pint from now on!
