This is a very important match for Listowel Emmets and hopefully a lot of people from our great town will make the trip to Ballylongford to cheer on the lads. They didn't have the best of sesons earlier on in the year but they have been playing some brilliant football lately. They retained their status in Division 2 against all the odds. This was followed by 2 brilliant wins against Tarbert in Round 1 and against Castleisland Desmonds in the Quarter-Final which now sees them up against Beale in Sunday's Semi-Final.

Beale who were defeated by Finuge in last years Final will very hard to beat. They have a young panel and they are very fit. Beale's last Championship win was 23 years ago in 1989. Listowel's last victory was in 2009. They made it to the Final in 2010 but were defeated by Tarbert after Extra-Time in a replay.

Tadhg Kennelly will not be lining for Listowel Emmets this Sunday. Goalkeeper Conor Walsh is available for selection after missing the 1/4 Final against Castleisland Desmonds. Shane Quinn replaced him on that occasion but will probably line out in defence this Sunday with Walsh taking up the No. 1 position once again. Brendan Guiney is also available after missing the 1/4 Final.

Listowel Emmets 2-06 Beale 2-07

This was a very entertaining contest from start to finish. Listowel Emmets went into the game as hot favourites but Beale were quietly confident of causing an upset. The game was played in very cold and wet conditions.

Beale opened the scoring in the 1st minute when Ian Blake drove over a massive point from a sideline. Listowel were quick to respond when Bryan Murphy kicked over a point. Listowel were starting to get on top but they could not make it pay on the scoreboard. They dropped a few scoring chances short and also had a number of wides. Eddie Joe Walsh put Listowel in front in the 9th minute with a well-worked point. Conditions were wet and there was a lot of broken play and turnovers. In the 13th minute Listowel’s Conor Cox took a free from 50 yards, which he dropped short. Beale swept up the field on a rapid counter attack. Barry O’Mahoney gained possession in behind the Listowel defence and rounded the advancing Shane Quinn to drive home a well-taken goal. Beale were fired up and came more into the game as the half progressed.

Listowel had more chances, which they wasted. Beale attacked again and won a 14-yard free which Ian Blake converted in the 20th minute. Beale were now a goal in front 1-02 to 0-02. Bryan Murphy who was playing very well drove over his 2nd point for Listowel a minute later to cut the gap to 2 points. Listowel hit the front again when Murphy scored a goal for Listowel. The ball broke in front of him and without picking it up he blasted it straight into the bottom corner giving Seán Dee no chance of getting to it. This was turning out to be a good hard game of football with no quarter being asked or given. Both teams were giving it their all to qualify for the final. Scores were hard to come and we had to wait another 7 minutes for the next one. Conor Cox got on the ball and made a great run through the Beale defence. He could have taken a shot himself but instead passed to that man again Bryan Murphy who volleyed the ball in spectacular fashion low and hard into the bottom corner. Listowel were 4 points up and half time was fast approaching. Beale needed to respond and they did when Padraig Murphy fisted over in a crowded goalmouth in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.

The 2nd half mirrored the 1st half with both teams giving it their all. Referee Seamus Mulvihill was kept very busy, as there were a number of flashpoints. Both teams had chances at the start of the half but the first score of the half came in the 37th minute when Padraig Murphy pointed for Beale to cut the gap to 2 points. A massive brawl broke out in front of the stand. Order was soon restored but Listowel Emmets seemed to lose focus in the period following on from this incident. Beale got on top and were winning all the breaking ball. Over the course of the game the ball broke 19 times in the middle of the field. Beale won 15 of these. This was to prove a telling statistic. In the 40th Beale attacked and Jake O’Connell had them back in front again he drove low and hard past the Emmets goalkeeper Shane Quinn. The ball crashed off the bottom of the upright and flew into the net. The stand in Ballylongford erupted and the Beale supporters were sensing that there was a great chance of an upset. Beale added 2 rapid points in the following 2 minutes. Padraig Murphy kicked over his 3rd point and Ian Blake kicked over a 14-yard free. Beale had taken the game by the scruff of the neck and Listowel Emmets looked to be in serious trouble. James McMahon who was having a very good game for Beale extended the lead to 4 points when drove over a brilliant point in the 44th minute.

Listowel were rocked and looked stunned. They had been shut out of the game by a dogged Beale side that now looked set for an easy victory. Listowel needed to respond and to their credit they did. Their defence needed to tighten up and they did. Beale would not score again. Listowel’s 1st score of the half came in the 48th minute when Cormac Mulvihill drove over a 50 to cut the gap to 3 points. Listowel were the team who were now getting stuck in and putting their bodies on the line. Listowel depend a lot on Conor Cox but he was finding it hard to make an impact on the game. His 1st and only score came in the 51st minute when he pointed with a long range free from over 50 yards out. There was just 2 points in the game now. 2-07 to 2-05 in favour of Beale. Brian McGuire was racing up field in possession when shipped a heavy tackle from Beale’s James McMahon. It was an over zealous challenge that deserved a yellow. Unfortunately for him it was his 2nd so he was sent off. This was in the 56 minute. It was all Listowel before this and from here on the game was played solely in the Beale half of the pitch. 2 minutes later Cormac Mulvihill took another 50 for Listowel but it drifted wide. Listowel were running out of time but Noel Kennelly drove over a brilliant point from a tight angle to cut the gap to just a single point. It was Beale who now looked rattled. They were hanging on as full time approached. In the 60th minute Noel Kennelly again shot from a tight angle but the chance drifted wide. There had been a number of stoppages in the 2nd half so there was a lot of injury time to be played. Beale were defending for their lives as Listowel battled desperately for an equaliser. 5 minutes into stoppage time Listowel won a free on the 50-yard line but it was out towards the sideline. Noel Kennelly took the free but it was always drifting wide. Seamus Mulvihill blew for full time much to the delight of the Beale panel and supporters.

This was an absorbing contest and both sides deserve great credit for providing great entertainment on such a cold afternoon. Beale will be confident of going all the way for the 1st time in 23 years. Listowel Emmets can hold their heads high. They had a tough season but they are rebuilding their panel at present. The future is bright for them as they have emerging young talent. When these lads muscle up and get more experienced they will be a force to be reckoned with. They held their status in Division 2 of the County League against all the odds and this will help them to develop again in the New Year.

Listowel Emmets Monthly Draw
Commencing shortly, we will be running a monthly draw that will take place on the last Wednesday of each month at the Clubhouse. The cost of the draw will be €5 per month which is less than the cost of a weekly Lottery Quickpick. The organising committee is currently selling tickets and we are encouraging people to sign up for a yearly ticket for €60 that will also include you in a special draw for 2 prizes of €100 each that will take place on the night of our first draw.
The annual prize fund will be €10,000 and there will be 8 guaranteed winners each month.
We fully appreciate the financial challenges facing our community at present but by supporting a successful Emmets Club, with players at all levels and ability, it will give the same community enormous pleasure now and in the years to come. We would like to acknowledge your support in the past and hope you will be equally generous again in supporting our club.

Emmets Progressive 41 Card Drive: continues every Wednesday night at 9pm in the Emmets Clubhouse, come along and enjoy the craic and don't forget to bring a friend.

Scór na nÓg
The Scór na nÓg semi final took place last Sunday 25th November in Abbeydorney where we were once again well represented by our Quiz Team: Shawn Carey, Ciarán Pierse and Daniel Sheehan. The boys put on a tremendous display against stiff competition from Na Gael, Curragh, Lixnaw and the Gaeltacht and were victorious once more. They are now through to the County Final, Sun 9th December, Tintéan Ballybunion @ 2.00 P.M. Well done to the boys, their parents and teachers for all the hard work. All winners of the County Final qualify to the Munster Semi Final of Scór na nÓg. Venue and Dates to be confirmed in the coming week.

Listowel Emmets Ladies
Emmets Ladies will hold their AGM on Sunday December 2nd at 4pm in the Clubhouse. The AGM is the most important meeting of the year and is open to everyone in the club. All parents and coaches are invited to attend. Members opinions and views are vital for the continuing success of our club, any feedback on the past year will be greatly appreciated. The AGM will review the work of the previous year and elect officers and committee members.
Well done to Derbhla Canty, Leah Henry, Sarah O’Brien, Maime O’Flynn and Doireann Tarrant, all who attended the Munster Development Blitz in Mallow over recent weeks at U13 and U15 level.
All players, coaches and friends of Emmets Ladies are invited to some pre-christmas fitness training sessions beginning on Saturday Dec 1st at 11am in the Listowel Community Centre. It is hoped to continue the classes for three weeks with additional classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I think that most TDs, whatever their party, would think carefully. The weakness of the party system of government is that the only way an individual TD can influence the party position on an issue, is at the meeting of the Parliamentary party. In the end the majority rules. The position of the individual is no longer obvious.

"Does the majority have the right to choose wrong".

Greenway to the border with Co. Kerry

It is hoped that work will be completed before Christmas by Limerick County Council on the 3 km extension of the Great Southern Trail [GST] which will bring the Greenway to the border with Co. Kerry. The GST will be organising its Annual December 27th 2012 walk along this route; further details later. The GST greatly appreciates the support of the County Council and also welcomes the initiative by the Limerick Local Area Councillors to meet with their cross-border colleagues in Co. Kerry with a view to progressing the trail further.

Well we will see the individual votes, if he votes to cut the carers he will never again get a vote from my family!

I have no carers in my family, but the work they do is vital. Some sections of society should be beyond cuts. Never mind the fact its actually saving the country billions each year!

Its up to you now Jimmy, Well be watching!

If the carers sat back and left it up to the government to look after their loved ones the government would be up sh1t creek, but the government knows that people aren't heartless enough to do that, so the government wins through emotional blackmail.

Come the next election, no-one will bother voting because the main parties, along with Labour and the late Green party will all be hated with a vengeance for screwing us over.

As for Jimmy, a job for life in North Kerry, whatever he does or doesn't do.

So in a week where we have had a 90 year old woman burgled in her own home while she was there and we have 2 scobes bare knuckle fighting on our streets.

Our councillers spend the entire meeting arguing over where they are going to hold there next meeting! The whole lot of them should be ashamed of themselves taking the wages they do!

Aldi are selling a Listowel Lemon Cheesecake... its part of their specially selected range. Does anyone know if it's actually being made in Listowel? It tastes delicious either way :-)
