I was never really part of the ECW following, but last night was the only PPV I've ever stayed watching until the end (without the benefit of video the next day).
It was an amazing show, have to agree about the Awesome match and yes Benoit - Eddie was a huge disappointment. Have to think one of them's carrying an injury or their employers told them to hold something back for their own WWE show.
I thought RVD and Paulie's mic-time tore the house down too and I can't imagine everybody back in Titan was pleased with them.

I reckon it was all part of the show. ECW's way was uncensored and you got the feeling anything could happen. im pretty sure everything that happened last night was scripted and passed by titan

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,655 ✭✭✭Ph3n0m

Aye they were typical WWE scripted "shoots" - you got to wonder, did any of the old boys protest over what was going to be said - like JBL or HHH

And did anyone else spot JBL stiffing poor Meanie?

First off I only found about the ECW event last week and boy was I excited.
I've followed ECW for a long enough while since their videos were frst released over here. GUILTY AS CHARGED 99 probably the best main event I've ever seen. I have path of destruction DVD that shows how violent those lunatics can really get.
But when it started I came over all giddy like the old days of '99 '00 whre I usted to stay up all night watching WWF sky sports (wwf days) and being completly in tatters for school the next day. All that came back once again after of years of laughing at the "WWE" min events I seen on tape my brothers recorded the next day, the exctiment that you knew you were going to see something special. But after a while I was left feeling that this wasnt just right. It was just a show with most cards let down especially the super crazy tajiri match which should have been so much more!!!!!!, that this was just a three hours shown how great ECW was and lets just reminice about the fact all the clips. Where for I felt that they could have made it a revivial sticking 2 fingers up at the establishment and saying we're back. Not just that we were great and we were new and inventive. The show down at the end was a disgrace too many people in the ring 4 or 5 each kicking the crap out of each other would have been much better.
Anyway it was great to see it back hopefully it will be back for a while and Vince pisses off and leaves them to do what they do best entertain the balls off of us.

P.S try and find some of the old ECW clip of Sandman or Sabu matches or an of the rest some of them.....well lets just say you can never look at that watered down crap that Vinny Mac gives us week in and week out.

    EC 'FN W

I watched it last night. Have to say Awesome and Tanaka did themselves proud. I feared this fierce rivalry would be let down by a WWE censored match but by god that was ECW through and through. I was also impressed with Lance and Jericho, a slow start but a solid entertaining match. Also good to see Sabu again! I did have some qualms though....

I was expecting much more from the luche libre matches, a lot more. Not so much that they were incapable of reaching my expectation but I dont think they did themselves much justice in relation to past matches. Also if WWE own the ECW music library why didnt they utilise it last night with current WWE stars like Mysterio, Eddie and Benoit etc? Small niggling things but I still enjoyed the whole ppv. Shame some of the talent there last night didnt get a match either like Snow or Balls.

Heh, it was a great ppv, the only annoying part was the fans. Those 'E-C-W' chants did my head in after a while. One Night Stand was a lot better than the past few WWE ppvs that I've seen. Were bound to see some more of ECW in the next few months...

I thought it was f*cking brilliant personally. The first match between Llance Storm and 'Lionheart' Chris Jericho was a great opener and I'm glad Lance got the win in probably his last match.

    Highlights for me:

    - Joey Styles commentary (this guy has ECW in his blood)
    - The moonsault by Super Crazy
    - The reaction the crowd gave the WWE wrestlers (Shut the f*ck up"!)
    - The crowd in general were great. (Lita's got herpes!)
    - Rob Van Dam's speech
    - Heyman's speech ( moment of the night probably. Stuck it to Edge and to JBL!)
    - Van Dam hitting the Van Terminator and not giving a sh*t about his knee
    - Benoit beating Guerrero (not a classic but a good match nonetheless)
    - Awesome vs Tanaka (match of the night)
    - Sandman's entrance
    - Kid Kash's dive
    - Beulah's return!
    - Tazz choking out Angle
    - The bWo's appearance
    - Austin's appearance
    - Styles giving it to Bishoff at commentary
    - Bishoff getting the sh*t kicked out of him

    Disappointments:

    - The censorship of words
    - JBL's rant
    - Mysterio vs Psichosis (a disappointing match and Psichosis was off his game)
    - An ad for Vengeance. (What the f*ck?)
    - I've heard JBL attacked the Blue Meanie and beat the crap out of him backstage after the show ended. The guy is a bully and should be punished but he won't be. He's an assh*le.

Overall I'd give the event a 10/10. Definitely an event you could watch over and over again. Hopefully it's not the end of ECW.

It was a great show and realy hope to see more of the same. The only thing is the WWE cant just keep putting on an ECW reunion show every six months. Storm Tazz and Foley are retired and Sabu isnt has good as he used to be. Id like to see it continue but I think they shouldnt be afraid to bring young guys into the mix like Londan Akio and non WWE talent like AJ styles and Daniels. I think the WWE needs to disasociate its self from ECW as much as possible if they are planing on continuing. Let them be as raw and edgy as they like under Heymans controle with backing from Vince.

ECW is such a huge brand now. Ironically it could be even bigger since it's death with some WWE stars like the Dudleys saying it's in their blood, etc. For whatever reason Vince hasn't allowed the ECW brand to die. Is it because he wants to completely resurrect the brand?

Raw on Monday nights, Smackdown on Tuesday nights and ECW on some other night? Maybe at the same time as TNA airs or something like that.

There were enough 10 year olds in the audience for one night stand to suggest that ECW still has a future within WWE. It's all about growing the audience share and there could be a gap in the market for an ECW with a budget.

And attached is the damage that JBL did - keep in mind the stitches/staples were already there

Was there any reason why he did that?

Or did he just kick the crap out the poor fella coz he felt like it?

    Great PPV though!

    Quick Recap:

When Meanie was released from WWE, he went online and made it clear he didnt find the actions of JBL very funny - the pranks, etc he played on newcomers.young wrestlers and likened him to a school yard bully

Roll on ECW PPV - JBl thinks its a good idea to pretty much savage Meanie at the end of the PPV

Meanie afirms that JBL just proved Meanie right about him - he is nothing but a bully

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Cianan2

He was bleeding in the ring when Austin started handin out the beers, but was he beaten up again after?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,655 ✭✭✭Ph3n0m

If you have it taped, look at the end of the PPV, just before Bischoff gets thumped around - you will see Meanie drag Maven on top of him - just before then is when JBL stiffed him

You guys might find this interesting:

    Source: Torch

There have been reports that the one and only Rob Feinstein tried to get through backstage at ECW One Night Stand however was rejected access due to not having a backstage pass. Rob had to go watch the show with the crowd like everyone else. Feinstein shot fan-cam footage back during ECW's heyday and ran errands for the promotion.

As previously reported Triple H and Stephanie did not attend the ECW pay-per-view. Shane and Vince both did, however neither of them booked the show but were both on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly for Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer, who were the bookers of the show.

The Paul Heyman's "shoot" on Edge was a planned segment for the show. Edge was told about it earlier in the day and was said to be completely fine with what Heyman was going to say about him.

However, the shoot which Heyman done on JBL wasn’t planned and Vince was watching all of it on a monitor backstage. Apparently Vince was initially surprised about what Heyman said about Triple H not wanting to work Tuesday night’s, he eventually laughed about it after a three/four second pause, saying, "I don't care, he put Triple H over."

Awww....I was hoping that was Paul E just shooting on Edge....shame...still so long as the JBL was unplanned I'm happy.

Wow that show was fabulous the other night. I've pretty much given up on wrestling as of late due to the blandness of the current WWE product but if ECW can be reborn and have regular shows, I may be reconverted.

Anyways great show, some great action but I hated the way all of the heel WWE superstars got so much attention. I wished Foley would have wrestled but seeing Stone Cold made up for it. Gotta love the bWo and the use of the cheese grater by Dreamer was class. The ending was a bit rubbish, a mass brawl wasn't called for but anytime Bischoff gets stunned I'm happy.

    Long live ECW!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Without wanting to repeat what everyone has said, Ill be short - That was CLASS. Best PPV Ive seen in a long time.

Eddie Vs Benoit was a major let down. Cant fault anyone of the rest of the matches.

I honestly though, for 1 split second that Matt Hardy was coming out when the wwe/ecw talent were facing off in the ring.

As for should ECW be reborn. Simply put, NO. That PPV was great, but if we were seeing that every week, we would soon tire of it. Let ONE NIGHT STAND be what it was, a momentous night and a fantastic PPV.

As did I, especially after heyman naming him in the ring.. Christ that would have brought the house down..

still though, quality PPV, really enjoyed it.. sandmans entrance was quality.. and at the end of the match.. "I NEED A BEER!!!"

Brilliant event, best since WM-X7. What made it so good was the emotion and the shoot-style feel about it. The ending wasn't great, Austin is more of a WWE guy than ECW, it didn't feel right for him to be the main guy there

Great seeing the real RVD, not the watered down version in WWE. The way he talked on the ECW DVD shows that he really wishes he was allowed go back to those days. Hopefully he's given the push he deserves when he gets back and is allowed go the way he wants to

Poor show by Bradshaw, he's worse than Holly

And I doubt that's the last we've seen of ECW

Did you notice that when Bischoff was being beaten up at teeh end, it was current WWE guys who did the beating? The Dudleys, Benoit, Mysterio and it was finished off with a Stone Cold Stunner (a WWE move). It was as if the WWE were acknowledging that ECW's time was over.

I hope that's not the case though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

I'd say that had more to do with the wrestlers and their moves being more well known, therefore getting a better reaction. I doubt Axl Rotten and Blue Meanie would have gotten quite the same reaction for their moves!

One thing I noticed though was Rey getting booed for the 619 and Psicosis getting it for taking off his mask. That would suggest that there were the real deal hardcore ECW fans at the event, which rubbishes Terry Funk's comments.

Anyone know what Shane Douglas said at the ROH event before One Night Stand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭oneofakind32

I was dissapointed when Rey and Psicosis did'nt come out in there old schooll gear and was just plane pissed that Rey did the 619. I was hoping to see a Dreagoncaranna (or Dreagacuranna, I dont know. Its a summersault into a Huricanranna) from Rey to finish or his classic splash mountain bomb reversal into huricanranna to finish.

On a side note, what was the story with the "Devil's Rejects" movie advert?
Ìs it connected to WWE in some way?

Its really to do with ECW - ECW used to use a lot of Rob Zombie music - as he was a major fan - so it kind of made sense to advertise his new movie coming out

    I see, cheers.

I thought it might have been the horror Kane is meant to be in, but last i heard that was to be called "Eye Scream Man" but then they decided to change it.

    Know anything about it?

I just read this now and thought it was pretty cool regarding the ECW PPV....

Before the event, Mikey Whipwreck asked Austin if he minded him doing the Whipper Snapper (basically a Stone Cold Stunner off the second tope). Austin said he was cool with that, and admitted that he copied the move from Mikey in the first place, so of course he could do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

I thought the Stunner was a copy of the Ace Crusher by Johnny Ace?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Brow

So did I but thats what some sights are saying. Plagiarism is big in the business though.

From what i recall from watching an austin biography, wasnt it Freebird Michael Hayes who introduced Austin to the stunner??

^^^ I dunno bout that. You could be right but I remember hearing it was Johnny Ace who came up with the move. I havnt read his biography so I'd imagine he mentions it in there.

Well, Sabu is meeting with Vinny Mac before Raw tonight. Imagine WWE signed him up. It'd be great on paper but would it materialise the way most of us would want. Sabu is fairly banged up at this stage in his career and with WWE adopting a very non hardcore image as of late it would severely hurt Sabu's style. I woner what WWE would have in store for him. Maybe tag him with RVD when he returns?
