You should keep an eye out in boards before you buy one, i got a 512 for €40 but if your CC is burning a hole in your sky rocket then try amazon or ebay.

Wipeout is one of the most amazing and addictive games I have ever played!
And the hidden browser.......oh so sweet it is!
I was on boards last night on my psp in bed at around 4:30.(Stupid summer weather disrupting my sleep.
Wipeout's graphics are seriously sweet I thuoght that all the flashing lights would take away from the graphics but it doesn't:)

Muff Master I really want a 1gb memory stick but who the hell would sell that?If you find any for cheap or second hand send me a pm or something.

would i reduce the risk of getting done for import tax if i didnt get games from lik sang and got them from cdwow? get the peripherals and stuff from lik sang? if my order from lik sang (valued at €240) got caught for import tax, how much would i be looking at extra?

    thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭Muff Master

Besty, I think the best way to get around the whole tax thing is to get them to post it through normal mail system instead of DHL etc.
I think thats how i avoided tax.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭Muff Master

    Franky,

i will keep an eye and ear out for ya.
You will prob only pick up a 512 around here but that will do you for homebrew and
    movies.

Noticed yesterday that CD-WOW are now selling games for PSP. They weren't last week. Games are a little bit more expensive than Lik-Sang, but still cheaper than Mr.Calculator (€70 a pop....)

I ordered 2 games from Lik-Sang and got them within a week. Posted from Germany.
Wipeout Pure and Ridge Racer (both US versions) for just under €82.

Someone put a post up yesterday informing that Komplett have 1Gb Memory Stick Duos for €116 + €10 p&p.

Saw them on eBay yesterday for around €85, but around €20 p&p.

Prices have to drop on the Memory Sticks - I got a 1Gb SD card last week for €65 delivered!!

PSP is ordered from Lik-Sang. I ordered the USB cable and a protective sleeve with it and ordered Wipeout from CDWOW. I really hope I'm not done for import but its a long shot. Cant wait for it to arrive now

Went through DHL - didnt seem to be an option of normal post when I was ordering. Got an email today saying that the credit card company restricted payment because they thought it was a suspicious website and needed verification to confirm the payment. On a whim, I got really pissed off and cancelled the order (don't ask). Kinna regretting it now...

not that it matters to you now, but DHL automatically slap on the import duty, then charge you an administrative fee for the service, then charge you VAT on top.

That's nice of them, isn't it? Added about 80 quid to the price of my PSP a few months ago.

thats ridiculous. such a fookin scam isnt it. ive discovered www.electricbirdland.co.uk selling them for ,€285 with a few bits and pieces. they come with free delivery,no import duties, usb charger/transfer cable,1.50 firmware guaranteed,cd with some extra software, case, plug adapter.

think i might go with that if the fella importing them on boards doesnt get them

Anyone ever use this site www.mymemory.co.uk , there in Jersey, so if you order from Ireland the price doesnt include vat £153.19 (235 euros altogether when you add postage). The UK price is £179. So would you get stung by customs then?

    "European & Worldwide Deliveries

Prices displayed on this site do not include your countries Value Added Tax (if applicable) or any other importation duties that may apply. Your will not be charged UK VAT on goods purchased from this site, it will be deducted at "checkout". Any further charges for importation to your country may be collected by the delivery agent. MyMemory accepts no responsibility for tax or importation charges levied outside of the United Kingdom.

Please note that due to our distribution system, some items may be dispatched under separate cover. This is to ensure that where appropriate goods can be physically delivered through your door."

If you get a 1.5 for that price it would be a bargain atm. Anyone know what the duty on this item would be?

sony stopped them sellling psps by bringing them to court (dont think the final decision has been made but a simliar site called nuplayer.co.uk has been ordered by court to stop selling psps before the european release date so looks like electricbirdland.co.uk will suffer the same fate.) Theres a dublin seller on ebay.ie selling psps with ridge racer(JAP) for 276 euros and allows collection so that seems a good deal for ppl in dublin. And there was a locked thread in the psp section with a guy(plastic_axe) selling psps for 260 euros in dublin, so again a good deal and no need 2 worry about customs.

Has anyone heard of Play-asia http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9e-70-edt-4-6.html# ? it is selling PSP's for cheap enough - it's €233 including postage - UPS so not sure if customs is included in that - it includes protective screen and usb power cable.
I am looking to get one before they come out here for the boyf - it'll be an early christmas present - very early I know. but then I don't have to worry about getting him a present - well just a small one to open on christmas day. So you can buy games online now - might do that seperate so....

i think theres a good chance u'll get caught by customs with asian companies, just ordered one myself from www.videogamesplus.ca , they supposedly mark it down as a gift so u dont get stung by customs. Ordered it yesterday morning, looks like i'll have it tomorrow or friday. Works out at 245 euros for value pack including delivery and they only have version 1.50 (its a good thing :) ) in stock.

    http://www.videogamesplus.ca/product_reviews.php?products_id=8490&osCsid=9ca53c15ea56a910ea6e212ee506cc9d

Havent seen anyone mention custom duty in any of the customer reviews.

I was thinking of picking a PSP up, but when I thought about it the PSP will be released here in 5 weeks for €255 so I think I'll wait, my question though is it definitely going to be released on 1st of september?

Yeah it will be released on sep 1st.......But if you but a value pack online it works out better value.......hence the value pack.

Just a small note.....if you buy one on playasia you will most likely get stung for import tax.My friend and cousin did.

Got mine throught 2 months ago from US for 225 euro with Value Pack and Spider Man UMD so had no compliants , got it via usps postage and SDS EMS took it within Ireland. Great Little Device and No customs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭eorpach

You paid 225EUR from the USA? Not bad I guess if you Irish Customs don't make an example out of you!!

I got a Sony PSP in Akihabara in Tokyo at the start of June - Akihabara's the world's biggest electronics district. Paid 175EUR for my PSP Value Pack. The RRP at the time was about 185EUR for the Value Pack in Japan (140EUR for the PSP alone), but if you're a foreigner with your Passport on you then you're entitled to not pay the 5% Japanese Sales Tax. Got 256MB Memory Stick for 35EUR, a Screen Protector for 4EUR and WipeOut Pure too for about 35EUR (fantastic game!). Game prices in Japan were alot better value than they're anticipated to be in Ireland - according to a guy I spoke to in one of Dublin's main gamers shops, PSP Games are expected to go on sale around about the €50/€60 mark (UK£39). Just another example of Rip-Off Ireland I guess (though the Sony PSP really is a brilliant console!..... :D )

Bought a Gameboy Advance last summer from Play-Asia. They were fine except it took them a few days to let me know that they went out of stock after I placed my order. I used Moneybookers to pay them too, rather than a Credit Card. It was abit of a leap of faith, but it worked out fine. The package arrived about a week after leaving Hong Kong - it was delivered by SDS so I was able to track it online. Think it was sent that way rather than by regular mail 'cos I complained about the delay, and it was marked as "Gift" too (thought I dont recall ever requesting that). Anyway, An Post SDS delivered it to the door and didn't ask for any VAT/Duty. If it's of interest, you can call the Revenue in Nenagh and ask what Duty a PSP is liable to (Usual total payable = Duty Price + VAT@21% cos it comes from outside the EU). Revenue said at the time that handheld games consoles weren't subject to Duty, so the maximum I would've had to pay would have been 21% of the declared value of the product (had it been intercepted by Irish Customs). Hope this helps you make a decision.

By the way, when I visited the Sony Showrooms in Tokyo I asked about Sony's attitude to honouring the guarantee on a PSP bought in Japan but brought home to Ireland. I was told that the guarantee could not be enforced against Sony Ireland, but that Sony Ireland would likely probably be happy to repair any problems with a Japanese PSP (though they would probably charge to do it).

Also note that you need to buy a USA/Japanese 2 -> 3 pin plug adaptor (which costs a few euros in an elecrical shop) so that you can charge your Japanese PSP in Ireland (the charger on my Japanese PSP handles 110v-240v so using it in Ireland is safe -- same applies to PSPs bought in the USA I think). Incidentally, if you know anyone who's going to the USA soon, they could pick you up a PSP Value Pack for about 250USD + State Sales tax, though the situation applies to USA Warranties as with Japanese ones I guess (plus an American PSP most like won't play UMD Movies bought in Europe when they go on sale 'cos of Region coding Sony intends to implement to Movies --- games are Region Free no matter where they're bought). Also the person bring it back could have to pay Duty +/ VAT@21% if intercepted by Customs officials at Dublin/Shannon Airports.

Good luck buying it --- I definitely recommend a Plastic Screen Protector if you can get your hands on one -- the PSP screen is very prone to smudges without one! If your boyfriend likes Tetris, then consider getting him Lumines, I got it in the USA a few weeks ago and I'm still hugely addicted to it.....roll on Grand Theft Auto for the PSP in September!!!!!!

    eorpach.

Got my psp value pack from videogamesplus.ca this morning having only ordered it on tuesday morning. Its says on the box toy game and value 20 canadian dollars so no import duty :) . The cardboard box it was in says colgate maxfresh breath strips for some reason. .I cant recommend them any higher, they even give a free screen protector. And its a version 1.5. If anyone decides to get one from them just ask them to mark it as a gift or do what they usually do when sending to ireland/europe in the comment box when ur in the checkout. An xbox lead can be used to plug in the charger. All games are region free but movies are like dvds so u'll have to get them from north america if you want them.

btw theres a new firmware version coming out at the end of the month with a web browser

They are generally good about time of delivery but get ready to get hit with import tax!Yum Yum!
