    1. I don't have to tell you why when I move a thread. I don't make a habit of deleting threads, or there's no paper trail.

    2. I was actually lenient, and then banned you for breaking the cardinal rule - if you're confused, don't post on the same board asking why. Quick tip - when your thread is locked or binned, try to find out why on your own first.

It's a week, get over it.

i couldn't care less about being banned for a week, but i think i should get a explanation of why my thread was locked in the first place?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,413 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

AH is too busy to PM people reasons why every single ban/thread lock/move happens. Read the charter, or post here (like you've just done, fair play) if you're unsure.

    Cheers,
    Al.

I wouldn't mind if i posted something that could have gone in a different forum, but in my opinion my thread should have been posted in after hours

    My opinion differs.

Repost your thread here. See the sticky at the top of the forum about requests lest you fall foul of more rules.

bull****, if you're going to do a job then do it fúckin right. If you can't spare 2 seconds to let them know why banned/deleted their posts then don't do it. If it's really beyond your capabilities then organise it so an automatic pm is sent to the person in question.

If people can't take 2 seconds to look for their moved post and consider why it was moved, that's not our problem.

I'll PM someone when I ban them, but not when I move posts. Once you have posted a thread, it no longer "belongs" to you. If I delete posts, then there's usually a good reason (and said person will be banned). If it's not obvious, there may be a PM sent.

How is an automated pm supposed to know why a moderator moved or deleted something ?

I don't see the point in sending a written message to people that are incapable of reading the rules. What are they going to do with it, print it out and ask someone to read it to them?

I think a message would be pointless.
By figuring out your mistakes yourself, you know what to do next time.
An automated message isn't going to help you.....

That seems fair enough to me....

I disagree. I've been banned and had absolutely no idea why.

which is frustrating....to say the least

If you don't like it, then you're very welcome not to post on AH, because that's the way I'm moderating it, and from recent posts on the Feedback forum, that's the way AH readers want it too. Other mods, like seamus and Monty, will differ to some degree, but I think we're roughly on the same page.

Personally I like to give boards users credit for some intelligence, like when they've been banned after posting something pornographic, or had a thread about a movie moved to the Films board, that they can figure it out themselves, or if they're unsure, they can post on here, just like TG did (and which, you'll note, I said fair play to him for doing so).

You'd be advised to calm down, lose the anger and not so subtle attacks (I'm not capable of doing the job, eh? :)), because you have a valid argument to make and those detract greatly from that argument.

Oh, and realise that there are more important things in life than an online BBS ;)

    Regards,
    Al.

That hasn't happened to me yet.
I make sure I get banned for a good reason. :D

    /edit

The specific case I was talking about was an automated message btw.
When I was banned from the soccer board because a guy I sponsored was banned I would have had no idea if Tala hadn't pm'ed me.
In cases like this its a great help to be told why you're banned.
But for obviously breaking a site wide rule like personal attacks why should the mod be bothered sending a pm....

and my opinion is that it should have been posted on the films and dvd forum.

looks like we have two opinions.

of course, mine is the right one.

It's a week, get over it.

There needs to be a "Topic Search" option on boards to stop this sort of thing (instead of Mr know it more then you where to shove your post moderator ;) )

AH has always been the generic area to post and quite a few people would probably not even realise that a particular forum on the subject they are posting exists.

Take for example if I was to look for what a phone number mapped to. Most people (like myself) would wander through the lists looking for phone related forum and not realise you have to go into the Computers section (comp->netcomms->netcomms), which has nothing to do with phones IMHO.

You have other stuff in public area which isn't sorted either.

Prehaps a meta-tag for each forum so you can hit a button and it best suggests where to post your subject.

Like the idea of Meta tags. Can they applied to particular forums?

Give me one good reason why the mods of our forums should tolerate muck like this?

they shouldn't have to but out of common courtesy i would unless it was some rascist jerk or something

in my opinion if you are saying that my thread should have been put in the film section, then 80% of after hours threads could be moved to different sections. I think after hours should be less strict, if someone posts a thread with something illegal then lock it but if its a thread about whatever, if theres no interest in the thread then it will slowly drift away, if there is then it should be there

I say loosen up a bit when it comes to AH, and by doing so it will make less work for the mods

being a mod is your decision, so don't complain when people complain about how bad some of the mods handle themselves, this isnt directed at you or anybody else just in general really

If you want to post outside of the harsh restrictions of After Hours, the Cuckoo's Nest will welcome your crap with open arms. However, it may not generate the results you expect.

Also, in my opinion you're a moron. But that's only my opinion, which is over five years better than yours.
