Can someone tell me if this is a ticket only event. I know that the tickets can be purchased from abbey disks for €18 but can you pay at the door instead.

Is there going to be a good crowd at this. Looks a decent DJ line up. Any info appreciated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 444 ✭✭DUB1

Well Il B There I Think U Can Pay At Da Door I Know A Lot Of Tickets Hav Been Sold

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭manufan

Thanks DUB1. I might take my chances and pay at the door. I'm sure this night will be popular with my generation (i'm 29) and a few of the younger ones as well but i doubt if it will sell out.

Yeah come along Manufan. If it's getting a bit hectic in the Asylum room head into the House room for a more subtle taste in music. Some top-notch dj's on in there. Michael Black is a Bodytonic resident and the don of American style House, Johnny Holmes plays a lot of proggy-electro stuff, the Hoxtons are a class feel-good House act, and the warm-up dj's are class at what they do aswell! So all is good!!!!

Just done a google and landed here!

I'm the exact same. Get all anxious and have mini rushes thinking about them days.

Come out of the Asylum, sun rising, clothes filthy, my brand new BK's destroyed (not to mention my mouth), head down to busarus and wait for a bus home. Get near me gaff, find my stash of whiskey in the garden, swallow a few mouth fulls and into the house. As far as me family were concerned i was at an all night party and still pissed as a fart! They knew no better in them days....

Low and behold it all came to an end! Ended up strung out to bits on gear after swearing blind i would never do it. Clean from it now though...

I think i still chase them nights out but they'll never return...:(

It all goes belly up in the end and i am a lucky one!

Normally where it says to Download there should be a password thingy, it says download with premium? Should be a free link to do so....

    As in :

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z6XQAMJW

Sasha and John Digweed, winter party Mosney 2000 (For example) see top right, it asks you for password...

Nr:Gex .... our first outing as a four piece dance act. (The Summer of 1992)

We done the 'Battle of the Bands' in the Bottom of the Hill, (Gleesons) in Finglas Village. At first the shop wouldn't let us play, but the promoters got wind of our sound and said we could do it. (Think it was Robbie Fox, not the Renards head tough.)

The night b4 the final we wrote a few tracks...lol, on the Roland s-50 sampler, (owned by Mark Kiernan / Warrens bro), that sampler had a full 15 seconds of sampling time @ 44.1khz (16bit) or 30 seconds if you sampled at the 22khz setting. Most of the early stuff was written entirely on that keyboard, using some sampling / digital trickery. (The kit I use now, has days and days of sampling time using 16bit, 24bit & 32bit, it's a totally different ball game now.)

Every band that entered the 'Battle' was a 'Rock Act', Long hair, guitars, leather jackets 'n' all that. We were the only dance act. We used a 2Track Reel to Reel for the backtrack, Warren K was on the decks, as was Mick Walsh, Pat Hyland was on the SH-101 Keyboard, I was on the Juno-106 and CS-5. Mick Whealen was on the Mic'ophone droppin some top vocals. Jay carey also played on the first night, but left after that gig, he was on percussion, Tambourine / Cowbell.

We won the first round and went on to win the whole sh-bang. The shop was rockin' that night, everybody was up doin' their thing. I remember one of the 'rockers' coming over and shakin' my hand and said 'Fu*k Me Maaaann' that sound you got is a killer. Also remember one 'gobbo' complaining to the judges. He wasn't happy that we were using computers to create the sound. I got the photos somewhere, I'll dig them out.

For winning the event, we got to play in 'Janelle' car park, along with ASLAN, (that was their reunion gig). Our set didn't go down as planned tough, the guys on the desk / soundsystem let us down. Found out later they were the crew for the headliners 'The Forget Me Nots'... Remember them ?, They were a 'clone' of so many other American bands,. with a big 60's vibe,. nuff said.

    All the Best...
    Caf. (aka Gen:FX)

PS. I know of 5 different heads that got that dove / nr:gex tattoo on their back,.. but I only ever got to se two of'em.... The Mad Bast*rds

I've been rackin me brains for ages but i can't remember anyone doing tattoos in sides. To be honest i woulda got one and i'd be secretly proud if i had it today. Mind you i really dont remember much but queing up to get in, queing up to put me jacket in and the music. I remember the roof downstairs always looked like it was gonna come thru with everyone reckin the gaff upstairs. It was like a being under a trampoline, freaked me out a bit tbh.

I vaguely remember that band the forget me knots too. 2 girls on guitars if memory serves me correctly. Think they got into the irish top 30 at one stage. I seen them in a battle of the bands in Charlies i think the name of the place was, i think it was george st it was on. I'm not from Dub and all those streets looked the same to me back then, mad outta it and lookin back it always seems like it was winter time, cold or raining.

I'd love just one night again!

The equipment came from several sources over a period of years. Persistant scouring of second hand shops, the buy and sell, word of mouth, swaps and anywhere else. We constantaly upgraded the kit, it kept the sound fresh, didnt get stuck in a rut of using the same samples, time and time again.

I got the TB-303 from a guy in a pub...lol,.. serious. He was a Bass Player and I just happened to mention I wanted a certain little 'bass machine', his reply was - "I have one of them things, but I can't use it". I dragged him up to his house and got it for £120. Still in it's original soft silver 'leather-ette' case (and get this) it's original cardboard box. I almost shat myself, Phew! (The TB came as a 'partner' to the Druma'tix drumbox).

We sold it on then to a mate of Mick W's (Mad (303) John) for £800, he knew how much we paid for it and didn't have a problem....Hence his name, but he had that nic-name b4 he got the 303. ;-)

Then got 2 'Novation - BassStations', but I never really liked it's imitation of the 303 sound. If I remember correctly, the Novation had a single oscilator but the 303 had a dual oscilator (the sound was routed back through the second oscilator), hence that very distintive warm bubbly bottom end and super clean top.

I use the Re-Birth 338 now, it's got 2 TB-303's, the 909 and the 808 Drum Machines. All the sounds are faithfully reproduced through the software. It's got the all important 'Shuffle' function and Distortion onboard. Plus you can import / replace any sound into the drum areas... very, very handy.

I got my first version from a magazine disk several years ago, (PC Format) but have noticed that the latest version has a slight (not that noticable, but still different) sound than the version I got off the mag-disk. I always use the *ReBirth.cnt* file from the original pc format disk. Most ears dont hear a difference but I find its just a smidgen' bit deeper & cleaner .... I'm a Fussy Fooker ;-)

Since late 2005 you can get it for free at http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/ -mmmmmm. (Get the Refills there also) and check out all the other goodies on the parent site http://www.propellerheads.se ;-P

The lads with the Tats didn't get them done in Sides DC.
There was never a tat-artist in house in Sides DC. (Maybe as a punter though)

    The 'Forget Me Nots' ?????? ,,,, Erm........Eh...... Who?... ;-)

Queing Up, that Muffle'd Boom - 'oom 'oom 'oom, the anticipation, in the door, drop the jacket, hit the floor... ahhhhhhh. All Good.
