Nothing ELSE problematic except some unnesessary stuff using RAM and cpu cycles

How much ram you got? If you run out without having much pagefiling it can cause random crashes. Chech your pagefile by START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>ADVANCED>PERFORMANCE SETTINGS>ADVANCED

    Description:
lsass.exe is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. Note: lsass.exe also relates to the Windang.worm, irc.ratsou.b, Webus.B, MyDoom.L, Randex.AR, Nimos.worm which spread via floppy disk drives, mass-mailing and peer-to-peer sharing. Please review file path for clarification of this.

search that page for lsass...that virus is the virus that creates the lsass.exe file

"lsass.exe" is the Local Security Authentication Server. It verifies the validity of user logons to your PC/Server. It generates the process responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service. This process is performed by using authentication packages such as the default Msgina.dll. If authentication is successful, Lsass generates the user's access token, which is used to launch the initial shell. Other processes that the user initiates inherit this token. More info

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

download the virus removal tool for that virus...here it is http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.removal.tool.html

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭ricey

no just with specific programs, its like if the pc don like the program it wont work but if it does then its fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i'm still fighting the virus corner...say your writing a mail will it freeze and then about 5 mins later catch up wit itself???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭ricey

no problems like that. just wont shut down and progs crashing thats it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

Most likely some of the windows directory files to blame. If you could locate the windows disc and boot of it it will give you the option to repair key windows files withoutloosing any data. Never worked for me but it must fix SOME problems.

Otherwise, Is all that 120GB essential or does it include windows/programs/games? If not a couple a DVDs would do the trick?

try running the removal tool ...won't do any harm either way...what errors are u getting is it like divxplayer not respondng or is it like rundll32 not responding

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

yeah thats where i was coming from with the rundll file causing trouble...could be some system files fecked as aietam storm suggested

ya i think il back up then stuff i need and just clean out the rest 2m.

no i tried to install the divx package what you are seen in the prosseses window

oh right i see...was the problem before this

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

-That too, try removing all the crashing programs and replacing them
-Very Unlikely but SCANDISK could pick up some errors?

\edit\ Now sounds more like a botched DivX installation
-get a program like easy uninstaller and clear it out

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭ricey

How does this sound i fek off into bed since its 3 in the mornin (at least im not the only one up) wake up 2m back up what i need and restore my pc to factory settings?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭ricey

    one min so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

    no panic

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

DIVXCREATE.EXE is still running so its gone and mucked up its registry file and XP is freaking.

If someone else could navigate you through START>RUN>REGEDIT it'd be fixable but i'm not too sure about messing with those myself

search te registry for the divx program u tried to install and delete all te keys u come across...or maybe try reinstalling tehe program again and then uninstalling

edit: this just came to me... i remember sorting out something like your problem before...might not be it but worth a try

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,227 ✭✭✭gamer
