I dont think i've erver seen one either.
And yes back in its day it was meant to be very fast, so i read anyway.
Reminds me of cosworth sierra's for reason, was this from the same time?

I assume you mean the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton, it was the fastest saloon of it's day because Vauxhall never bothered with a speed limiter. Never seen one myself

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    283km/h back in '89

Would I try doing that kind of speed in it?

    ....no! :D

Wasn't there tabloid outrage at the time about this insanely fast saloon? Something along the lines of "Ban this sick filth" and so forth, your usual Daily Mail tripe.

I've never seen a Lotus Carlton, either here or in the UK. They were never sold in this country and in small numbers in the UK.

From what I've read it's an absolute beast of a machine :) As already mentioned, there was a lot of controversey (the usual tabloid rubbish) about it at the time.

There is another version of the Carlton which is milder but still not exactly slow - the GSi 3000. Have seen a few of these about.

mmmmmmmmmmmm! One of the worst timed cars in recent history - panic over XR3i type joy riders and then the recession of 1990.

there is a chap lives near Naas has/had a Lotus Carlton. rarely out of the garage. I've only seen it once when i was near his house about 3 years ago. I think the outrage in the UK was due to the fact that with a top speed of 172mph, there wasn't a cop car in the country to match it. Bank robbers dream come true!!

Vauxhall Carlton is the same as an Opel Omega A. As for the Lotus Carlton - there have been two on ebay recently - one with only 6000 miles!

with the right suspension tweaks, some mild tuning and a set of nankang tyres, they can be quite fun while loaded on jack daniels :)

Thats great until.....you get a mile and a half down the road and the engine claps out! :D

Suppose by then the cops would be about 30 seconds behind and you'd be on foot and there were very few police choppers then! :D
