Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
Trying to find a cheap DVD burner for a laptop. Is it possible to use an internal one, externally?
Also, if anyone knows any cheap burners (1st or 2nd hand), I'm all ears.
    Thanks
    -Cian

Yeah, but you'd need to put it into a caddy, which combined with the cost of the internal writer could put the cost above what an external burner would cost.

komplett have a lovely internal laptop dvd burner here for €85 but youll need to take your old one out to fit it (obviously) some laptops its as easy as undo a couple of screws and pull out the old one, others it involves taking half the lappy apart. depends on what laptop you have. a dvd burner will kill your battery a bit when burning dvds, but how often do you need to burn a dvd without a power source nearby?

Yeah i got that one last week for the inspiron 9100, since it has a media bay in the laptop you need to remove the adaptor that screws onto the side of the drive then attach the new drive.

The laptop in question cannot take a CD drive at all, as it is a slimline design. Does anyone know where the best place to find a cheap external burner is?

I picked up an IDE to USB 2 adaptor on ebay for about 15E. (Something like this) It allows you to use any IDE device via your USB 2 port. It also comes with a power adaptor with a 3-pin plug on one end and a molex connector on the other. So pick up a cheap internal IDE CD/DVD burner and off you go. This is possibly the cheapest (but not the best) solution...
